LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lurine Malone passed away on Sept. 3, 2014, in Lakeport. She was 93 years old.

Lurine was born Sept. 3, 1921, to David Seaton and Easterbell Johnson in Troup, Texas.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Troup.

On June 30, 1938, she married her junior high school sweetheart Leverse Malone. In the early 1940s she and her family moved from Troup, Texas, to San Francisco, Calif.

She was an Eastern Star for more than 40 years and a member of the NAACP for more than 25 years.

Lurine is survived by her two daughters, Donna Malone (Harold) Spiller and Angela Malone; stepdaughter, Veronica Malone; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Idell Malone; son-in-law, Ray Calhoun; and nine nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Leverse Malone; her son, Ben David Malone in 2006; her oldest daughter, Ledell Calhoun in 2008; three sisters-in-law; and one brother-in-law.

She was loved by so many and will be missed but never forgotten.

Visitation will be held at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary on Monday, Sept. 15, from 9 to 11 a.m., with a funeral service to take place at 11 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Upper Lake Cemetery following the service.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Marilyn D. Miller entered into rest on Sunday, Sept. 7, at her home in Clearlake.

Marilyn was born on April 7, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, also spending time in Long Beach, Calif., before coming to Lake County, where she spent over 30 years.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Mary Jenkins (Richard) of Arizona. She also is survived by three grandchildren, Corine Ybarra, Desiree Ybarra and Shelly Yeo, with five great-grandchildren, Lola Yeo, Ann Yeo, Kyra Ybarra, Emma Ybarra, and Nolan Chieffo.

She is proceeded in death by her husband Stewart Miller.

There will be a visitation at Jones and Lewis Clear Lake Memorial Chapel in Lower Lake on Thursday, Sept. 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. Family and friends are encouraged to attend.

Catholic funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 12, at Jones and Lewis Clear Lake Memorial Chapel in Lower Lake starting at 11 a.m., followed by a committal service at the Lower Lake Cemetery.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Donald “Don” Leroy Saderlund, 78, a lifetime resident of Kelseyville, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, due to complications following a fall at his home.

He was born in Kelseyville on Aug. 16, 1936, to Lucille Smith and Charles “Elmer” Saderlund. 

He grew up in Kelseyville and married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Walker, on Aug. 5, 1956. 

Don went on to join the United States Air Force and proudly served for 20 years until his retirement. He and Shirley moved back to Lake County and remained here until his death. 

Don also worked for the Lake County Air Pollution Control and the Lakeport Police Department where he is best know for his work with his companion police dog “Max.”

While in the Air Force, Don was fortunate to spend time in Africa, tour Europe and live for six years in Hawaii.

He loved to spend his free time panning for gold and in his earlier years hunting with his sons. He also was seen many weekends at the farmer's markets selling his custom woodwork.

Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Saderlund; son, Robert (Cathy) Saderlund; daughters, Donna (Dan) Hall and Angela Wendland; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son Roy Charles Saderlund on March 6, 2004.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at Kelseyville Cemetery, 3375 Bell Hill Road.

There will be a potluck reception following at the Kelseyville United Methodist Church, 3810 Main St.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – Mildred Conklin, age 95, entered into rest Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at her home in Lower Lake.

A native of Arkansas and formerly of San Francisco, she lived in Lake County for 46 years.

Mildred is survived by many nieces and nephews.

“Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.”

Margaret “Maggie” Cook
June 10, 1924 – Sept. 6, 2014

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Margaret “Maggie” Cook is survived by her son, Irving; grandchildren, Teffeney (Ty) Gibney, Craig Cook, and  David (Lisa) Cook; and great-grandson, Benjamin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irving, and daughter-in-law, Darlene Cook.

A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at St. Mary's Cemetery on Highway 175/Hopland Road near Lkaeport.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Patricia Beth Neu Tolleson was born on Sept. 12, 1929, in St. Helena, Calif.

Her parents were Leander Neu and Gladys Petit Neu, who owned the Little High Valley Ranch on Spruce Grove Road outside of Lower Lake.

Her mother’s family came to Lake County in August of 1856 on a wagon train from Missouri to escape the violence that preceded the Civil War. They settled on Spruce Grove Road and made a living from farming and cattle ranching.

Patricia and her three siblings lived on the ranch until their mother died of breast cancer in October of 1936, when Patricia was 7 years old.

The children went to live with their aunt in the Oakland until they were old enough to return to the ranch in 1938 to live with their father. The children attended the one room school house on Spruce Grove Road and Lower Lake High School.

Growing up during the depths of the Great Depression was difficult, but her father worked hard on the ranch to provide for his children. These hard times influenced her greatly and she grew to be very frugal and grateful for the small things.

Upon graduation from high school, Patricia worked for a year in a jewelry store in Oakland to save enough money to attend nursing school at Samuel Merritt Hospital School of Nursing.

When she graduated from nursing school with her RN, she returned to Lake County and worked at Lakeside Hospital and then a family doctor in Lower Lake and lived with her father at Little High Valley Ranch.

She married in 1955 and had three children. Patricia returned to work as an RN on the first day that Redbud Community Hospital opened in 1968. She work the night shift so she could care for her children during the day.

She continued to work nights at Redbud Hospital for almost 40 years. She tried to retire from nursing when she turned 78 but found it too dull.

She returned to nursing part-time until the age of 82, caring for patients often younger than herself.  Nursing was her calling and she cared for others her entire life.

She lived quietly in Middletown and in the last months of her life she fell ill. She died in her sleep at the age of 84 in the early morning hours on Sunday, Aug. 31, after spending the day with her close family.

She is survived by her three children, Eddie Jr. (wife Barbara) of Las Vegas, Rebecca (husband Rex) of Orange County and Wesley (wife Georgia) of Lower Lake.

She also is survived by five grandchildren, Eddie III of Las Vegas; Kyle, Rachel and Thomas McMillian of Orange County; and Wesley Jr. Her youngest sister Virginia also survives her.

She will be buried next to her parents in the Lower Lake Pioneer Cemetery after a long life of caring for her family, her patients and enjoying time spent on the ranch she inherited from her father in Little High Valley. She was deeply loved by her family and will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 9, beginning at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 16255 Second St. in Lower Lake. Burial will follow at Lower Lake Cemetery.
