11/28/1938 – 6/24/2014

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – Ron left us unexpectedly in San Francisco.

He was born and raised in Kelseyville, Calif.

He served his country in the Air Force.

After arriving in San Francisco in the 1960s, he began a career as an accomplished cosmetologist.

Following a tragic hotel fire in 1983 he was forced to retire due to injuries he sustained.

A true gentleman, he gave his time, kindness and energy to various groups in many ways.

He always had a solution for whatever the question was.

He loved to entertain and was tremendously charismatic. His ever-present smile and quick wit were always the life of the party.

His extraordinary creative talents included everything from stained glass to creating lavish ball gowns to elaborate party planner. No task or project proved to be beyond his abilities.

He had friends all over the world. He loved his family dearly.

His most expensive toy was a 1960 Rolls that he named “Julia.”

His generosity, compassion and loving spirit will be greatly missed.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Alden and Adelaide Hummel; and his sister, Nadine Gates-Lebert.

He leaves behind family members including sisters, Claudette Lockhart and Thressa Merriman (Bill); nieces and nephews, Colleen Hummel, Bruce Lockhart, Brenda Lockhart, Michael Merriman, Donald Merriman and Tom Merriman; his housemate of 50 years, Willie Gardner; and his friends in Black Tie, Rotary and all the members of the San Francisco Breakfast Club for which he was their president.
