LUCERNE, Calif. – A caregiver support group for families dealing with memory loss or other cognitive impairments will meet on Thursday, Feb. 20.

The group meets at the First Lutheran Church, 3863 Country Club Drive across from the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Social worker Jenny Johnson is the facilitator.

The group is sponsored by Redwood Caregiver Resource Center (1-800-834-1636) and the Social Day Programs in Lake County.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The inaugural “Relay Trail Trials,” hosted by the Relay for Life team Relay Riders, will be held on Saturday, March 22.

The equestrian event takes place at the Gaddy Shack Ranch, located at the corner of Soda Bay Road and Gaddy Lane in Kelseyville.

Two classes, open and novice, will be offered. Dave Oncale will judge the classes.

Sign ups take place from 8 to 9 a.m. Donation fee is $40 and includes lunch.

There will be vendor booths – with booth space still available – and a number of prizes, from Adirondack chairs to pillows, horse items and more.

One hundred percent of the proceeds go to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – The Redbud Audubon Society will host Dr. Floyd Hayes, biologist and ornithologist, at its upcoming program offering at the Lower Lake Historic Schoolhouse Museum on Thursday, Feb. 20, starting at 7 p.m.

The title of the program is “Adventures in Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.”

Dr. Hayes was selected as a Fulbright Scholar in 2012 and spent four months in Paraguay where he taught a course in ornithology at the National University of Asuncion.

In addition to his teaching duties, he accompanied colleagues from Guyra Paraguay on several field trips.

Hayes has been to Paraguay several times and conducted research on the country’s birds for his doctoral dissertation, a 231-page book titled, “Status, Distribution and Biogeography of the Birds of Paraguay,” which was published in 1995 by the American Birding Association.

While there, Hayes also traveled with his wife to various parts of Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, observing and photographing a diversity of wildlife, including caimans, whales, sea lions, elephant seals, guanacos, penguins, rheas and toucans.

Hayes will present a fascinating program including his fabulous images and his adventures at the Thursday night Audubon program.

Come at 7 p.m. to enjoy refreshments, with the presentation starting at 7:30 p.m.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – On Friday, March 7, and Saturday, March 8, OneJustice’s Justice Bus Project will partner with Legal Services of Northern California (LSNC) and the Lake County Bar Association to provide two free legal clinics to residents of Mendocino and Lake Counties wanting help with criminal record clearance (expungements of certain criminal convictions).

The two clinics will be held in Ukiah and Kelseyville. The March 7 clinic will be held in Ukiah at the offices of Legal Services of Northern California at 421 N. Oak St. from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The March 8 clinic will be held in Kelseyville at the United Methodist Church, located at 3810 Main St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participants can meet with law students and attorneys to get assistance with or information about cleaning up criminal records that may be creating barriers to employment.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Fair Board will meet on Monday, Feb. 24.

The meeting will begin at 4:45 p.m. at the administration office at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 401 Martin St., Lakeport.

Action items include approval of the livestock auction contingency reserve percentage, previously 7 percent; setting the date of the appreciation dinner; and approval of a write off of bad debt, $213 from 2012.

The board also will discuss committee reports, the 2013 statement of operations, conflict of interest Form 700, incompatible activities statement, and the 2014 fair times, admission prices, carnival and grandstand entertainment.

Fair board directors include President Janeane Bogner, Vice President Marcia Chauvin, Sham Cochrane, Annette Hopkins, Meyo Marrufo, Jerry McQueen, Carol Brandt, Dr. Paul Marchand and Doug Rhoades.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – Mendocino County Health and Human Services Agency Animal Care Services will be holding a silent auction of the livestock from the McNab Ranch location.

The livestock includes three adult cows, one calf, one steer, 21 goats and 33 sheep.

This is an “as-is” purchase.

Animals can be viewed at www.co.mendocino.ca.us/hhsa/auction .

The cows, calf and steer will be sold individually and the goats and sheep will be sold in lots.

Silent bids must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28. Successful bidders will be notified by Wednesday, March 5.

Successful bidders must pay and take possession of their livestock within three days after they are notified.

All interested bidders will be required to complete an application indicating the ability to care for the animals’ needs including veterinarian care and sufficient food, water and shelter.

Applications must be submitted in a separate envelope from the bid. Mendocino County HHSA Animal Care Services reserves the right to reject any application for any reason.

The bidder will be required to sign a statement indicating their awareness of the “as-is” condition of the livestock with no oral or written warranty.

Bidders also will authorize Animal Care Services reasonable access for the first year following the auction to assure the well-being of the animals concerned.
