CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Charles “Sonny” Green, born Aug. 8, 1945, in Watsonville, Calif., passed away on March 15, 2015, in Clearlake.

He left behind wife, Vera; sons, Louis and Don; stepdaughter, Denise; brother, Don; and grandchildren, Nico, Jaymz, Lea, Luca and Louis.

Charles was a loving husband, loving father and loving grandfather.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lawrence Owen Deti passed away in a St. Helena hospital on Monday March 16, 2015.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – KPFZ radio will host a memorial gathering for former programmer and past president Catherine Elias, who died in December.

The event will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at the United Methodist/Unitarian Universalist Church, 3810 Main Street, Kelseyville.

Catherine and her husband Steve Elias were actively involved in the development of KPFZ and from 2001 to 2011 co-hosted several on-air public affairs programs.

In the early 2000s Catherine Elias served as board president of Lake County Community Radio, which owns and operates KPFZ.

A long-time civil rights advocate and legal specialist, Catherine Elias worked in the areas of welfare rights, paralegal training, development of self-help law and other consumer materials, and education programs for youth and the public.

She was executive director of the National Self-Help Law Project, Founder of the National Association for Independent Paralegals, and associate director of the National Bankruptcy Law Project.

She also co-authored Nolo Press' Independent Paralegal's Handbook and wrote numerous articles, handbooks and training programs.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Martha “Dianne” Grover passed away March 12, 2015, at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.

She was born in Montebello, Calif., June 11, 1946 to Everett and Betty Owens. In 1961, the Owens' moved to Lakeport.

Dianne graduated from Clear Lake High School. She married Leon Grover in 1964 and has a son Leon (Lon) and daughter, Stacie.

In 1974 the Grovers moved to Burney and later to Fall River Mills in Northern California but spent many summers and weekends back in Lakeport to visit family and friends and get out of the cold.

Dianne was fun loving with a sense of adventure and, at different times of her life, enjoyed cheerleading, water skiing, camping and fishing (here she would say “YUK”) and she was a voracious reader all of her life. She especially loved the ocean where she would venture in up to her ankles only when she was feeling especially brave!

She a special fondness for animals and children. Funny, compassionate, and a great listener, Di always had the ability to instantly make friend and make everyone feel like family.

Family was very important to Dianne. Always a kid at heart, Dianne loved spending time with her two granddaughters in Colorado, Ashley and Courtney. Even strangers at the grocery store got a full update of her special girls, her pride an joy! They were truly the loves of her life.

Dianne's laughter, joy, generosity and spirit will be missed by her family and many, many friends.

She is survived by her husband, Leon; son, Lon; daughter, Stacie (Larry) Packard; granddaughters, Ashley and Courtney; sister, Marilyn (Mike) Williamson of Lakeport; nieces, Penny, Page, Christy and Holly; nephew, James; great nieces, Kiersten, Stella and Sierra; and great nephew, Branden.

A celebration of Dianne's life will beheld on Saturday, March 28, at noon at the Lucky 4 Trailer Park, 1060 N. Main St., Lakeport.

Dianne would have liked you to do something for yourself or loved ones or donate to your favorite charity.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Our sweet valentine, Carmen Carpenter, passed away on Feb. 26, 2015, at 100 years of age.

Born on Feb. 14, 1915, in Billings, Mont., Carmen was the oldest of three sisters.

As a child, her family moved to lnchelium, Wash., where she grew up on the family farm.

She graduated from Colville High School and attended Withworth College for two years.

She met Grover (Bo) Carpenter who was a surveyor working for the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey which was working on the Grand Coulee Dam Project.

They married in 1935 and Carmen accompanied Bo on his surveying jobs in Washington, Oregon, California and Arizona.

They settled in Kelseyville after World War ll ended and raised two sons.

Carmen was very active in school and community clubs all her life. She played her saxophone at school dances and with a band at local establishments where there was dancing. She played her sax and marched in local parades well into her 90s.

She helped arrange and decorate flowers in the Presbyterian Church in Kelseyville for many years and loved to enter flower arrangements in the Lake County Fair.

Carmen loved parties and she often dressed up in costumes she had made for club events and parades.

Carmen is survived by her sons, Charles (Nancy) of Kelseyville and James (Maureen) of Lakeport; grandsons, Matthew (Mariann) of Kelseyville, Douglas of Tracy and Andrew of Finley; and great-grandchildren Kylie of Santa Cruz, Josh of Tracy, Nate and Alex of Finley.

Carmen was preceded in death by her two sisters, Virginia and Barbara.

Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Kelseyville Presbyterian Church, 5340 Third St.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Lake County for its help.

 

LUCERNE, Calif. – Cathi A. Johnson, formerly Cathi Hinshaw, born in San Jose, Calif., on March 17, 1953, died in Lucerne on March 5, 2015.
