Helen Bostock

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Helen Marie Riordan Bostock was born on Leap Year, Feb. 29, 1940.

She was the daughter of Jeremiah and Suzanne Riordan, sister of Michael Riordan (deceased). Married to Rob Bostock for 60 years on Nov. 25, 2021. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family.

Helen is survived by her husband, Rob of Cobb Mountain; daughter, Nancy Hiteshew (partner Jerry Bonomi) of Valley Springs; son, Alec Bostock (wife Isabel) of Fairfield; son, Derek Bostock of Concord; grandchildren, Angela Freitas (husband Chad) of El Sobrante; Captain Anthony Hiteshew, USAF (partner Dr. Christina Amaro) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; George Bostock of Fairfield; great-grandson, Sawyer James Freitas of El Sobrante; cousin, Robert Roeder of Fremont; extended family in Idaho, Colleen, Creek, Calder and Johnathon.

Helen leaves behind many friends from the Bay Area and Pine Grove area of Cobb Mountain, California.

She was a member of the Wednesday Mexican Train Domino group; member of the Mystic Order of Anomalies; co-president of the Ladies Guild, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church; member of the monthly Bunco ladies group; avid reader of mysteries; and happy traveler on land and sea.

Private family memorial service was her request. Please consider donations to a charity of your choice.

Freeda Krukoff

Freeda Maye Gorbet Duncan Krukoff ‘Nannie’

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Freeda was born Aug. 24, 1927, and crossed over to the spirit world April 15, 2022, peacefully at her residence with her loved ones surrounding her.

Freeda is survived by her daughter, Colleen Pete and son-in-law, Gary Pete (Round Valley); daughter-in-law, Darlene Robidoux (Yurok); son, Douglas Duncan and daughter-in-law, Susan Duncan; and son, Kyle Crandell and daughter-in-law Jackie Crandell.

Freeda is predeceased by her husband, Henry Krukoff (Aleut Corporation); mother, Hazel Gorbet (Robinson Rancheria) and father, George Gorbet (Greenville Rancheria); three sisters, Colleen Poe, Mildred Duncan and Evelyn Peake; and two sons, Dwayne Duncan and LaVerne Duncan.

Freeda entered this world under a walnut tree at Old Robinson on Mockingbird Lane. She was proud to be a member of Robinson Rancheria and to work at her tribal casino (22 years) and she loved playing bingo and the slot machines.

She was an avid news follower for local and political news. She enjoyed being informed before going to the ballot box.

Freeda was blessed and loved 20 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren and all of her nieces and nephews. She will be missed by so many she touched, loved, cared for and befriended.

Funeral service was held at Robinson Rancheria Gymnasium on Saturday, April 23. She was laid to rest at Robinson Rancheria Cemetery.

Selena Jack

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Selena "Nina" Jack was born June 10, 1974, and she began her journey home to Creator on April 9, 2022. She was 47 years old.

Selena was predeceased by her mother, Wilma E. Gomez; father, Valentino P. Jack; brother, Charles P. Jack; maternal grandparents, Lewis and Ramona Gomez; paternal grandparents, Hudson and Annie Jack; and niece, Nikia Gomez.

She is survived by her daughter, Angelica Rovetti; son, Tino Rovetti; aunt, Carol Gomez; sisters, Valerie Jack, Carla Rodriguez and Janine Williams; brothers, Michael Gomez, Philip Jack, Kelly Jack and Jeremiah Jack; nephews, Xavier Jack, Joshua Jack, Jacob Nevarez, Matthew Smith, Michael Smith, Steven Morgan, Jeremiah Jack Jr., Julian Bernard, Andrew Gomez, Michael B. Gomez, Nico Cazarez, Anthony Driskell, Joseph Driskell, Richie Gomez, Mark McCloud III and Martin Smith; nieces, Erica Nevarez, Adrienne Nevarez, Vanessa Gomez, Alyssa Gomez, Feather Morgan, Mary Morgan, Savanna Jack, Marlene Jack, Mona Gomez, Jessica Alvarez and Markie McCloud; great-nephews, Aiden Jack, Nakai Jack, Dyani Jack, Salvador Castellanos III and Fabian Perez; great-nieces, Aiyanna Jack, Alina Fred and Nikia Fred; and her childhood BFF, Lynda Tuscano.

Selena comes from a family of 10 siblings. She lived her entire life on Big Valley Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians where she was an enrolled member of the tribe. She worked in numerous positions at the tribe's different enterprises including Konocti Vista Casino and Big Valley Rancheria Smoke Shop.

Selena was a fairly private person, but she loved her family and friends, especially her great grand nieces and nephews like her own grandbabies.

She had the biggest heart and was generous and giving to those around her. Her smile was infectious and one couldn't help but feel good when in her company. So many people loved her. She will be greatly missed.

She will be remembered, for a long time to come, by those that loved her. She will never be forgotten. We love you, Selena.

Traditional Native American visitation will be held at her home starting on Friday, April 15, at 11 a.m. until noon on Monday, April 18.

Jimmy Juan ‘JJ’ Jackson

Jimmy Juan “JJ” Jackson passed away peacefully on April 20, 2022, in Kingsland, Texas, surrounded by family.

JJ was born on July 7, 1945, to Doris and Alfred Jackson in Lamesa, Texas.

JJ is predeceased by his father, Alfred Jackson; mother, Doris Biggerstaff; half-brother, Joe Biggerstaff; and life partner, Jack de Vine.

JJ is survived by step-brother, Don Jackson of Dimmitt, Texas; sister-in-law, Nancy Biggerstaff of Marble Falls, Texas; niece, Jeanette (Garry) Soefje of Leesville, Texas; nephew, Joel Biggerstaff of Marble Falls, Texas; and three great-nephews: James, Joey and Johnny Biggerstaff.

After graduating from Odessa High School in 1963, JJ joined the Navy. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, JJ stayed in California where he later met his life partner of 47 years, Jack de Vine.

JJ worked for Nash Enterprises for 18 years, including Seven Seas Supper Club and managed Starwood.

While part of deVine Feathers, JJ made the feather boas worn by celebrities such as Cher, Lucille Ball and Ann Margaret, to name a few.

JJ loved travel, which included a trip to England and traveling across the US.

In 1982, JJ and Jack opened The Bungalow in Clearlake Oaks and later settled in Nice. While in Nice, JJ was involved with several organizations, including the Senior Center, Robinson Rancheria and was a member of Hartley Masonic Lodge.

Following Jack’s passing, JJ returned to Texas in 2014 to care for his mother.

Graveside Service will be held on Friday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at Upper Lake Cemetery, Upper Lake, California.

Harrison Walter III

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Harrison Walter III of Lakeport, California, died Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Meadowood Nursing Home in Clearlake, California, at the age of 75.

“Harry” was born Jan. 31, 1947, in Charlotte, North Carolina to Harrison and Mary Lois Walter.

He attended Patrick Henry Elementary School, Everett Junior High School and Galileo High School in San Francisco.

Harry graduated from Willits High School in 1965 and later the College of Arts & Crafts in the San Francisco Bay Area.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. in July 1965 and served one tour of combat duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in July 1971.

Harry was self-employed for 30 years with Metal Arts Enterprises in San Jose, and Morgan Hill, California, where he produced handmade custom knives, jewelry and designed and built custom parts and machines for tech companies in Silicon Valley.

He loved to read and cook. He loved the ocean. Harry was a Sea Scout, a gymnast, champion wrestler, and a cheerleader. He will be missed.

Harry is survived by his brothers, Mark Walter (Kathy) of Liberty, South Carolina and Sam Walter (Kim) of Lakeport, California, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Harrison Walter and Mary Lois Walter.

The family will have a private memorial service.

Jay Porteous

Jay William Porteous, aged 53, was born on June 28, 1968, in Santa Clara County, California.

He was raised in Michigan and eventually established his family in Lakeport, California.

Jay graduated from Thornapple-Kellogg High School in 1986, prior to attending Michigan State University.

Jay would go on to begin his career as a merchant mariner, a job he enjoyed for over three decades.

Although he cheated death on numerous occasions, Jay ultimately passed away on Feb. 25, 2022, in Woodland, California.

Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Patricia (Stager) Porteous and William Porteous; and sister, Lisa Porteous.

He leaves behind sisters, Lori (Crews) and Jennifer (Reynolds); fiancé, Julianna (Bisaccio); and daughter, Annabelle.

Jay lived a blessed life with many great adventures, and in turn many great stories. He had a brilliant, contagious smile which brightened the world. He often shared the warmest all-encompassing hugs.

Jay was generous with his time and energy. Jay touched countless lives all over the world. There is an empty space where his smile and voice once were.

Jay was loved and leaves behind memories of a too-short life well-led.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 23, in Middleville, Michigan.
