Mary Anne Guastavino, 87, of Lakeport, Calif., passed peacefully Saturday, June 22, 2013, after an extended battle with a number of illnesses over the past two years.

She was born Mary Anne Nunes, eldest child of Joseph and Mary Nunes, on Nov. 11, 1925, in San Leandro at her grandmother's home.  

She grew up in Hayward where she graduated from Hayward High School. She attended San Francisco State University as an art student during World War II and met U.S. Army soldier, the late Willard Hansen, in San Francisco.  

They were married in 1946 and moved from the Bay Area to Ukiah and finally settled in Upper Lake while raising 10 children, all graduates of Upper Lake High School.

A homemaker for most of her life, Mary Anne was a devoted parent and community mentor serving as a Boys and Girls Scout Den Mother, catechism instructor and 4-H leader while her husband Willard served as Lake County's Flood Control District manager.  

She also worked part-time for the Upper Lake Water District for several years and was active in a number of community service organizations, clubs – Sons of Italy, TOPS and others – and at St. Mary Immaculate and Queen of the Lakes Catholic Church in Lucerne.

In addition to raising her children, she never lost her appreciation for the arts and continued to paint for many years.

Mary Anne was preceded in death by her husband Willard Hansen in 1994.  

She is survived by her second husband of 12 years, John Guastavino of Lakeport; 11 children, Donald Hanson of Anaheim Hills, Anne Marie Gabri of West Sacramento, Cathy Chand of Sacramento, David Hansen of Groveland, Dolores Molavi of Sonoma, Jeanette Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Vincent Hansen of Haines, Alaska, Barbara Edwards of Upper Lake, Thomas Hansen of Upper Lake and Patrick Hansen of Juneau, Alaska, and stepson, Bob Guastavino of Sunnyvale.

She also is survived by 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, 1625 N. High St., Lakeport Friday, June 28, from 3 p.m. with the Rosary beginning at 7 p.m.

Mass will be at St. Mary Immaculate, 801 N. Main St., Lakeport at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 29.

Interment to follow at Upper Lake Cemetery, 780 Clover Valley Rd., Upper Lake, Calif.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – All family and friends are invited to a celebration of life for Carole Givich, who passed on October 27, 2012, and David Givich, who passed on June 10, 2013, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 29.

The event will be held at Clear Lake State Park, 5300 Soda Bay Road, Kelseyville.

This will be a potluck picnic per Carole's last wish.

Marvel Santos passed away peacefully June 14, 2013, at her home in Kelseyville, Calif.

She was born in Hopland, Calif., in 1930. She was proud to have been a Lake County resident for 83 years.

Marvel is survived by her daughter, K-Sue Connolly and her husband Bob of Foresthill, Calif.; son, Cliff Santos and his wife Chris of Vacaville, Calif.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Marvel was preceded in death by her first husband Tom Harris, her second husband Frank Santos and her son Ron Santos.

Marvel and Frank used to enjoy gold panning and camping in their RV.  She continued to nurture her beautiful garden until just weeks before her passing.

Marvel leaves behind a loving family and many friends who will miss her very much.

She live a “Marvelous” life.

Private services will be held.

Burt Lohman died Tuesday, June 11, 2013, in Clearlake, Calif. He was 91 years old.

He was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Hildeciem, Germany, to Carl Fredreck Lohman and Dorthea Sophia Lohman.

Burt immigrated to the United States at the ripe age of 7. His parents were proud to become United States citizens. Burt and his two brothers; Hans and Woffie also became citizens. Burt always said, “God first, my country the United States, and family.” His family knew and understood what that meant to him.

He grew up in Camden, New Jersey. After he graduated from high school, he then joined the Merchant Marines and hit the seas. He came back to a brief city college experience.

Burt enlisted in the Army Air Force for three years during World War II.

Burt came back after the war and graduated from the University of Illinois with honors, Phi Beta Kappa.

Burt moved to Arizona to teach school. There he met Jean Pettet, and were married for 63 years. Burt taught school for five years in Arizona and 20 years in California.

Burt was a captain in the Salvation Army in Napa, Calif., for 12 years.

He retired to Clearlake, Calif., with his wife Jean, and daughter Lisa.

Burt is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, David (Harriet) Lohman and Darrell (Peggy) Lohman; daughter, Lisa Lohman; grandchildren, Holly, Brian, Rebecca and Mark Lohman; and great-grandchildren, Pierce and Scarlet Sutherland.

Burt continued his love for teaching as a tutor for children and as a Bible teacher. He held many Bible studies which so many people took part in and were blessed.

In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to the Salvation Army or to your favorite charity.

Cathie Woods Coulter, born Sept. 6, 1923, in Glasgow, Scotland left us June 17, 2013, to join her sister Annie and her brother Francie in heaven.

She leaves behind a loving family: her daughter, Frances (Richard) Latham; sons, Angus and Peter Coulter; grandchildren, Rick Latham, Luke and Laurie Wade and Layla Coulter; nieces, Annette (Bill) Baillie, Frances (Phil) Farrell; nephew, Danny (Betty) McFadyen; along with her family in Scotland, May, Rosemary, Frank, Matthew and June in England, and special friends Karen and Lannie Blansett of Paso Robles, Calif.

She was loved by everyone she met and will be missed by all.

In accordance with her wishes there will be no funeral service. Instead a memorial fund will be set up in her name at the Lakeport Senior Center, 527 Konocti Ave., Lakeport, CA 95453, to assist needy seniors and for Meals on Wheels.

She loved her time with friends at the Lakeport Senior Center.
