He was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Hildeciem, Germany, to Carl Fredreck Lohman and Dorthea Sophia Lohman.

Burt immigrated to the United States at the ripe age of 7. His parents were proud to become United States citizens. Burt and his two brothers; Hans and Woffie also became citizens. Burt always said, “God first, my country the United States, and family.” His family knew and understood what that meant to him.

He grew up in Camden, New Jersey. After he graduated from high school, he then joined the Merchant Marines and hit the seas. He came back to a brief city college experience.

Burt enlisted in the Army Air Force for three years during World War II.

Burt came back after the war and graduated from the University of Illinois with honors, Phi Beta Kappa.

Burt moved to Arizona to teach school. There he met Jean Pettet, and were married for 63 years. Burt taught school for five years in Arizona and 20 years in California.

Burt was a captain in the Salvation Army in Napa, Calif., for 12 years.

He retired to Clearlake, Calif., with his wife Jean, and daughter Lisa.

Burt is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, David (Harriet) Lohman and Darrell (Peggy) Lohman; daughter, Lisa Lohman; grandchildren, Holly, Brian, Rebecca and Mark Lohman; and great-grandchildren, Pierce and Scarlet Sutherland.

Burt continued his love for teaching as a tutor for children and as a Bible teacher. He held many Bible studies which so many people took part in and were blessed.
