LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Michael John McCune passed away Feb. 24, 2018, after a long battle with dementia. He was born February 11, 1944, to John and Phyllis McCune, in Lansing, Michigan.

He is survived by his wife, Carol McCune of Lakeport; son, Timothy (Tim) McCune and wife Renee and their children, William and Marissa of Chevy Chase, MD; stepdaughter, Christina and and husband, Dan Allmon and their children, Sofia and Sam of Chico, Calif.; stepdaughter, Stephanie and husband, Doug Del Bosco and their children, Anna, Nicholas and Luke of Lakeport. He is also survived by his brother, William (Bill) McCune of Naples, Fla.; sister, Kathleen Zamarron of Tamarac, Fla.; nieces, Lydia Rivera of Naples, Fla., and Amelia Roraback of New York City, and their families; and nephew, Simon Roraback, Davenport, Iowa.

Mike served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966, stationed in Korea and Germany.

He returned to East Lansing, Mich., and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in psychology. Mike was married to Pamela Sherwood Booth from 1968 to 1997. They moved from East Lansing to Maryland and their son Tim was born in Washington, DC.

Mike was in mid-management with Giant Food in Maryland for many years, then worked as a technical writer at Oracle Corp. before retiring.

Mike and Carol married in 2001 and first lived in Bethesda, MD, where Mike had resided for many years. They attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Rockville, MD, where Mike enjoyed teaching English as a Second Language classes.

They became close friends with Dr. Jong-Moo Huh and his wife In-Sook from Seoul, Korea, while in the DC area. The Huhs returned to Seoul and their son Matthew was born, who is Mike and Carol’s Godson.

After retiring, Mike and Carol traveled the East Coast, enjoying the beautiful scenery and the history of the area.

In the summer of 2002 they moved back to Lake County. Mike enjoyed life in Lake County and was a active member of Lakeport New Hope Fellowship for many years, serving as an elder.

Mike loved the outdoors, including hiking, fishing, camping and sailing, and enjoyed Orioles games.

Visitation will be held at Jones Mortuary in Lakeport on Friday, March 9, from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at Jones Mortuary. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing, Mich., with his mother and grandparents.

The family wishes to thank Hospice Services of Lake County for their invaluable assistance during the last few months, and also Arlene Wing and her staff at Clover Valley Guest Home for the years of loving care of Michael. We are forever grateful.
