Cameron Bates, a 36-year-old Clearlake transient, was arrested in the case, according to Sgt. Travis Lenz.
Just after 5:15 p.m. Sunday Officer Travis Parson responded to a report of a suspected residential burglary in the 4500 block of West 40th Avenue, Lenz said.
Once on scene, Parson established through his investigation a white male adult had broken into the residence through a window and was still believed to be inside, according to Lenz.
Lenz said additional Clearlake Police officers arrived on scene and established a perimeter around the residence.
Parson yelled several police canine announcements into the residence to provide Bates with the opportunity to surrender without incident. However, Lenz said Bates would not exit the residence as Parson ordered him to do.
Due to concerns for officer safety, Parson deployed his Police K9 partner “Bear” into the residence to conduct a search for Bates, Lenz said.
Bear located Bates, who was naked and hiding in a closet, according to Lenz.
Lenz said officers rushed into the residence and took Bates into custody without further incident.
After being medically cleared at St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake for injuries attributed to being apprehended by Bear, Bates was transported to the Lake County Jail, Lenz said.
Lenz said Bates was booked into the Lake County Jail on charges of first degree burglary and resisting arrest, with his bond set at $50,000.
Bates remained in custody early Wednesday with a tentative court appearance set for Thursday, according to jail records.
