Sheriff's office seeks drive-by shooting suspect

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Authorities are seeking a suspect in an alleged drive-by shooting that occurred in Kelseyville over the weekend.

Injured in the incident was a 15-year-old boy, who reported being shot in the foot, according to Sgt. Steve Brooks of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 1:13 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, deputies responded to Pioneer Park in Kelseyville for a report of a juvenile who had been shot in the foot.

Deputies located the victim who said he had been walking on Second Street when a white pickup, possibly a Ford F-150, drove down Saderlund Street, Brooks said. The boy reported that someone in the vehicle had shot him.

Deputies located what appeared to be bullet wound on the outside of the teen’s right ankle. Brooks said the victim subsequently was transported to Sutter Lakeside Hospital by personnel from Kelseyville Fire Protection District’s Station 55.

Brooks said deputies searched the area and located a spent .40-caliber casing near the intersection of Second and Saderlund streets. A bullet also was located, which had fallen out of the victim’s pant leg while receiving medical treatment.

He said deputies canvassed the area and were informed that a white pickup had been seen speeding down Saderlund Street. just a few minutes prior to their arrival.

Deputies contacted the teen victim at the hospital, at which point he became somewhat uncooperative, Brooks said.

Brooks said the teenager changed his description of the pickup and said it could have been a Toyota Tacoma.

The teenager told deputies that as the pickup drove by, he heard someone yell profanities at him and then he was shot. He described the individual who shot him as being a Hispanic male with short hair, mustache and wearing a hat. The victim was unable to provide any additional information, Brooks said.

Deputies located two witnesses who were reportedly with the victim at the time of the shooting. Brooks said the witnesses told deputies that they were walking on Second Street and approaching Saderlund when a vehicle drove by them.

One of the witnesses thought the vehicle may have been a Volkswagen Jetta. Brooks said neither witness was able to remember the color of the vehicle or describe the occupant.

He said one of the witnesses thought the occupant of the vehicle may have yelled something and then they both heard what sounded like two gunshots.

The victim then told them that he had been shot in the foot, Brooks said.

Anyone who may have information regarding this case is encouraged to contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at 707-262-4200.
