LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Lake County Democratic Club's August meeting is canceled indefinitely. 

The group will meet again on Tuesday, Sept. 13. All speakers will be rescheduled.

The club's usual meeting place at the Methodist Church in Lower Lake was destroyed in the Clayton fire.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) will hold a public outreach meeting regarding Yolo, Grizzly Island and Napa-Sonoma wildlife areas.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area’s conference room, located at 45211 County Road 32B, Davis.

CDFW will take public comments and recommendations and provide updates on habitat conditions, availability of water for wetlands and possible impacts to hunter access on public lands.

These wildlife areas are located in CDFW’s Bay Delta Region, which includes 12 counties in Northern California and is one of seven CDFW regions in the state.

CDFW annually provides an opportunity for licensed hunters to comment and make recommendations on public hunting programs, including anticipated habitat conditions in the hunting areas on wildlife areas through public meetings and other outreach.

COBB, Calif. – The 13th annual Masonic Scholarship Golf Tournament-Scramble will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10.

The event, sponsored by Clear Lake Callayomi Masonic Lodge F.&A.M., will take place at Adams Springs Golf Course, 14347 Snead Court in Cobb.

The day begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

The cost is $75 per person for walkers, $85 per person for those using a golf cart. That cost includes lunch, tee prizes and a raffle. There also will be closest to the hole and long drive contests. For golf only, the cost is $60 for members.

The cutoff date to enter is Sept. 1. The field is limited to 60 golfers.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Plans are under way for a new garden tour and landscaping challenge taking place in 2017.

Citizens Caring 4 Clearlake, www.CC4CL.org , a nonprofit organization working under the umbrella of NCO Volunteer Network to beautify Clearlake through community action, is planning the Gems of Clearlake Garden Tour to showcase the talents of local gardeners on April 8, 2017.

Anyone interested in allowing their yard to be included in future garden tours is asked to contact the CC4C Landscaping Committee at 707-701-3554.

In conjunction with the garden tour, CC4C is issuing a landscaping challenge to the citizens and businesses of Clearlake.

Anyone who has an inclination to create or improve a garden spot, and wishes to participate, should send a dated “Before” photograph to CC4C Landscape Challenge, c/o 14225 Ridge Rd., Clearlake, CA 95422, no later than Oct. 1, 2016, to enter. Categories are most creative, most improved, best use of recycling and drought tolerant.
 
First prize will be $250. There also will be second and third place prizes, honorable mentions and every contestant who completes the challenge will receive a prize for participating. Participants are encouraged to photograph their “during” efforts, also, for possible publication.
 
Dated “after” photos must be received by May 1, 2017, and the winner will be selected by June 1, 2017.
