Lakeport Planning Commission to consider possible zoning changes to allow for commercial cannabis
The meeting will take place beginning at 5 p.m. in the council chambers at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.
At the Sept. 20 meeting commissioners will consider developing procedures for the allowance of commercial cannabis uses within the city.
Officials said the proposed changes would reflect state regulations associated with the recently approved Proposition 64 that legalized the personal use of cannabis in the state and other recent legislative changes concerning cannabis over the past couple of years.
At that meeting, the commission will do the following:
- Host a short discussion on recently approved legislation concerning commercial cannabis, including Prop 64 and SB 94;
- Consider potential use permit standards for commercial cannabis uses including cultivation, manufacturing, testing, retail delivery, etc.
- Look at appropriate zoning districts for the allowance of commercial cannabis uses. Staff is recommending the consideration of the “C-3,” Service Commercial and “I,” Industrial zoning districts.
The public is encouraged to attend and participate.
Following that meeting the city will develop a draft ordinance for the regulations of commercial cannabis to be presented at a joint workshop of both the Lakeport Planning Commission and Lakeport City Council on Tuesday, Oct. 3, with the time to be determined.
