Jogger hit, seriously injured by van Thursday morning
CLEARLAKE, Calif. – A man was hit and seriously injured by a van while he was jogging Thursday morning in Clearlake.
Police did not identify the man, who was injured shortly before 10 a.m. near the intersection of Arrowhead Road and Country Club Drive.
Clearlake Police Sgt. Rodd Joseph said police were dispatched to a possible vehicle versus pedestrian injury collision at approximately 9:56 a.m. Thursday.
When officers arrived, they discovered an unidentified adult male subject lying on the shoulder of the roadway with massive trauma. Joseph said Lake County Fire Protection District personnel arrived and began treating the man for his injuries.
The injured man was flown to UC Davis Medical Center. On Thursday afternoon, Joseph did not have an update on the man’s condition, as he was reported to still be in surgery.
Joseph said the driver of the vehicle was identified as 63-year-old William Jackson of Clearlake Park. Jackson was uninjured.
After obtaining a statement and physical evidence, Jackson was released, Joseph said.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was jogging east on Arrowhead Road and was approached from the rear by Jackson’s silver 2005 Kia Sedona van, also traveling east on Arrowhead Road, Joseph said.
For unknown reasons, the van collided with the pedestrian. Joseph said the cause of the collision is still under investigation.
Joseph said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision at this time.
Arrowhead Road was closed to traffic for approximately one hour.
Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is urged to contact Officer Adams at 707-994-8251.
