Oct. 7 Unitarian service focuses on choices, patterns in behavior

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Former Lake County resident Caroline Knowles-Hance will lead the Unitarian Universalist Community of Lake County service on Sunday, Oct. 7.

The service begins at 11 a.m. at the church, which the congregation shares with the Kelseyville United Methodists, 3810 Main St. in Kelseyville. Guests are always welcome.

The title of the sermon is, “Our Mirror Neurons: Templates for Wisdom, Terror and Grace. “

Of her topic, Knowles-Hance said, “New discoveries in neuroscience show that our human brains are actually 'hardwired' for empathy and imitation. We will explore both the blessings and afflictions of our capacity to mirror immediately the acts and intentions of others, and our choices in how we live our lives with the patterns laid down within us.”

Knowles-Hance has completed her studies at Starr King School for the Ministry. Her current work is with veterans, serving as Chaplain to Swords to Plowshares in the San Francisco Presidio, consultant to the Coming Home Project and member of the Board of the Interfaith Center in the Presidio.
