Leber and Lewis to Perform at UUCLC March 13

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Eric Leber and Clovice Lewis are currently presenting a series of special performances of the spontaneous poetry spoken by the 13th century poet popularly known as Rumi set to music both composed and improvised by Lewis.

The Leber-Lewis duet, who playfully call their piece “Rumerice,” will perform this inspiring and soul-stirring composition next on Sunday, March 13, for the Unitarian Universalist Community of Lake County in Kelseyville.

The service starts at 10 a.m. at the Kelseyville Senior Center, 5245 Third St. Child care is provided and guests are welcome.

Rumi, born in 1207, was a Persian poet, spiritual teacher and Sufi mystic who lived most of his life in Konya, present day Turkey, dying there in 1273 AD. His shrine in Konya is still a place of pilgrimage for thousands each month.

His teaching and loving life saw the founding of the Sufi Order of the Whirling Dervishes, his poetry resonating through time while transcending religious, national and ethnic borders.

Frequently described as the most popular poet in America, his voluminous works are widely read in the original Persian and are also translated into many of the world’s languages.

Eric Leber, a fine poet and writer in his own right, is also well known in Lake County as a preeminent teacher of T’ai Chi Ch’uan. He recites the poetry, which is passionate, playful and often humorous in telling tales of the Divine play throughout the human condition.

Clovice Lewis, an award winning professional composer and cellist, is the principal chair cellist in the Ukiah Symphony Orchestra. Many orchestras and professional ensembles around the nation have played Lewis’ compositions.
