Competitors came from around California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada to compete in Langtry Farms' second annual Cattle Dog Showcase, held Oct. 13 and 14.
Julia Williams of Marysville-based Cow Dog News said the showcase is one trial of many where competitors can earn points to quality for the 2008 United States Border Collie Handlers Association's national finals, scheduled to take place in Wyoming.
Loren Holmes of Red Bluff, Calif., with his dog, Leo, earned the championship in the “Open, High Combined” category.
Holmes and his dog, Nikkers, placed fourth in the same category.
His performance at the Cattle Dog Showcase solidifies Holmes' No. 1 ranking so far this season in the United States Border Collie Handlers Association's rankings.
Dave Periera and his dog, Bull, of Cottonwood, Calif., took championship honors in the “Non-Pro, High Combined” category.
