Ed's Fishing Dispatch: It's a good time for the bite

Well, the top water bite is screaming along; if you love seeing the bite, this is the time of year. Try throwing Frogs, Spooks or Wake Baits. If you are using a Frog stick with the basic colors black or white. For those who prefer throwing a Spook I would use the Silver Flitted or a Black Spook early or late in the day. The Wake Bait by Xcalibur is a good choice as well, Root beer and Shad colors are my favorite in this bait.

There is still a really good Jig bite on rock piles in deeper water. The key on the jig bite is banging the bottom. Stick with brown and purple, brown and orange and plain brown. If you are dragging the jig use a little lighter jig, if you are fishing the rocks heavier is the ticket.

Fish are still being caught on drop shots, stick with worms in the purple and red colors. Don't be afraid to throw a larger size worm, the fish like the bigger profile in the water. Fish are being caught in both the North and South best luck has been early in the day and later in the evening.

Have fun and remember to release your fish.
