Stonewall Democratic Club meets May 25

CLEARLAKE – The guest speaker for the Monday, May 25, meeting of the Lake County Stonewall Democratic Club will be Andy Weiss, station manager of Community Radio KPFZ 88.1.

Weiss was scheduled for the March meeting, but due to an accident was unable to attend.

The meeting at the Redbud Library Conference Room, 14785 Burns Valley Road, Clearlake will begin with a potluck at 6:30 p.m. followed by meeting at 7 p.m.

All LGBT members are cordially invited as well as friends and allies.

Family Fun Day event planned

FINLEY – The Lake County Farm, Home, and 4-H Foundation is putting on a Family Fun Day.

The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the Big Valley Grange, 1510 Big Valley Road, Finley.

The event will include a Mexican buffet dinner, live dance music by Kustom Cuts, a silent auction, the infamous Balloon Grab, horseshoe games, hands-on activities for the kids and a Lake County Master Gardener information booth to answer all your gardening questions.

Tickets for the event are $15 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under and are available for purchase now.

Pride group meets May 27

CLEARLAKE – Lake County LGBTIQ Pride will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, May 27.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Lakehouse Inn, Bistro & Lounge in Clearlake (the old Lamplighter) at 14165 Lakeshore Drive.

Tickets still available for May 24 'Outdoor Movie and Dinner Night'

LAKEPORT – Organizers say tickets are still available for the Lakeport Main Street Association's Outdoor Movie and Dinner Night on Sunday, May 24, in Lakeport's Library Park.

This event is a fundraiser for the 2009 Lakeport Fireworks show.

Due to financial constraints, the Lakeport Regional Chamber of Commerce is unable to fund the fireworks display for 2009, and going to the community is the method that seems the most viable, said Melissa Fulton, the chamber's chief executive officer.

LMSA has committed to a $2,000 donation and this exciting evening is our way in assisting a win/win for our community.

Imagine being in your favorite spot at Library Park enjoying that great old movie “American Graffiti” on a larger-than-life movie screen while you and your family lounge on your favorite blankets. We encourage you to bring your own lawn chairs for a more comfortable viewing and if you feel inspired come dressed as your favorite character from American Graffiti.

Dinner will consist of spaghetti and meatballs provided by Park Place Restaurant, salad with two choices of dressing provided by Molly Brennan’s Pub, garlic french bread provided by Main Street Pizza and Dessert will provided by Angelina’s Bakery.

The cost for this wonderful evening is $20 per person and children under 12 $10.

There will be a beer and wine reception at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m. The movie will start approximately 8:15 p.m. (dusk).

The community has always been very supportive of the fireworks in Lakeport and although everyone is facing challenges in the current economy, there seems to be a widespread desire to carry on this great American Tradition.

PG&E reminds customers to keep dogs secure when employees enter yards

SAN FRANCISCO – Every day, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) meter readers, gas service representatives and other employees enter yards and homes to read meters, re-light gas pilots and provide other types of customer service.

During National Dog Bite Prevention Week, May 17 through 23, PG&E reminds customers to make sure their dog is safe and secure whenever a PG&E employee is scheduled to visit your home or business.

Each year approximately 50 PG&E employees are moderately to severely attacked by dogs. Because PG&E is committed to employee safety, the company provides employees the opportunity to attend a dog bite prevention course that informs them about dog behavior and temperament, and how to protect themselves in the event of an attack.

PG&E works with customers to keep dogs safely away when employees are scheduled to visit their home or business. Customers can find out when their meter is scheduled to be read by visiting www.pge.com/meterreading or by calling PG&E’s customer service line at 1-800-PGE-5000. These schedules are subject to change, so please re-check the day before a scheduled meter read.

Here are some tips to provide a safe environment for your dog and PG&E employees:

– Restrain or relocate your dog when it is time for PG&E employees to read your meter.
– Confine your dog as necessary. If the employee is outside, keep your dog inside. If the employee is inside, keep your dog outside. If the employee must work near your dog, make sure it is secure. Dogs may become more protective in the presence of their owners.
– Post a Beware of Dog sign on your fence or house to avoid any surprises.
– Leave a note on your meter explaining that you have a dog and how it is confined.
– Be sure all vaccinations and inoculations for rabies and parasites are up to date.
– Train your dog to obey simple commands like "sit," "stay," "no" and "come."
– Collar your dog, so you have the means to quickly restrain your dog in any emergency.
– If you get a new dog, contact PG&E at 1-800-PGE-5000 to let them know.
