KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Docents at the Ely Stage Stop and Country Museum have created beautiful new visitor displays for summer’s end.

Pam Hendricks, museum docent and member of Konocti Quilters, has loaned a selection of mini quilts, wall hangings, and lap size quilts from her collection.

Vintage American pottery from docent Bonnie Skee’s collection is also on display featuring McCoy, Hull, Roseville and Weller pieces manufactured in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Take the opportunity to view both displays through October in the main house in the Lake County Historical Society’s and the county of Lake’s newest museum.

View the Carpenter’s Star quilt block that has recently been moved from its porch location to the new red barn on the property.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Lakeport resident Sarah Chapman is asking for the community's help in identifying the person responsible for crashing into her parked car early Sunday morning.

Chapman said that at approximately 1:55 a.m. someone screeched around the corner and slammed into her 2005 Buick LeSabre, parked in the driveway in front of her Oak Knoll Avenue home.

She said the collision happened with such force that it moved her Buick about 10 feet, leaving it parked parallel to her house.

After hitting her vehicle, she said the driver in the other car sped away. Lakeport Police responded and took car parts left at the scene for evidence.

Chapman said that the suspect car is believed to be silver and is now missing a right front blinker light. The serial numbers indicate the vehicle may have been in 1994 Honda Accord.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Fair Board will meet on Monday, Aug. 26.

The meeting will begin at 4:45 p.m. at the administration office at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 401 Martin St., Lakeport.

Discussion items include cleanup of the facility by NCRA after events, the 2013 Lake County Fair, the fair's opening parade, fair time board meetings, box seating, the blue ribbon dinner, volunteer appreciation dinner and disposal of televisions.

They also will receive fair board attendance information and committee reports, and get the September calendar of events.

Fair board directors include President Janeane Bogner, Vice President Marcia Chauvin, Sham Cochrane, Annette Hopkins, Meyo Marrufo, Jerry McQueen, Carol Brandt, Dr. Paul Marchand and Doug Rhoades.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – “Reading is so Delicious” the Lake County Library’s 2013 summer reading program for children and teens, has ended for the season.

Countywide, 472 children registered and 256 finished.

They read hundreds of library books amounting to thousands of pages. Family listeners, children too young to read on their own, also participated by listening as others read to them.

Program events featured food in many forms. Story times and activities for children were held at all four Lake County libraries.

The spacious new Middletown Library has room for events that the old library couldn’t accommodate and volunteers put on several events for the children in Middletown.

Children who attended Lakeport Library’s story time in Library Park had several special food treats, including a taco salad feed, a watermelon feed, ice cream treats, PBJ Day and Doughnut Day.

Awards parties were held at all branches. Children received special “goody bags” and readers were honored with their names on commemorative bookplates in books donated by the Friends of the Lake County Library for the library’s collection.

For children and teens who missed the awards parties, unclaimed prizes will be held at the library branches through September.

The teen program is for students in sixth through 12th grades. Thirty-seven teens signed up and 34 attended at least one event. They read more than 145 books and completed 10 library bingo cards.

The teens decorated the young adult section of Lakeport Library with food collages; decorated cupcakes; learned about sourdough bread; visited a farmer’s market and saw a cooking demonstration; made chocolates; heard local author Alethea Eason read from her book “Hungry;” visited a community garden; and created a mini-garden/macramé project. John Cerwin demonstrated how to make jewelry from heirloom seeds.

The teen program ended with a pizza party where teens received their awards and a cookbook compiled from recipes that the teens submitted. Amy Patton, coordinator of the teen program, surprised the teens with aprons that she had made.

Readers were honored with their names on commemorative bookplates in books donated by the Friends of the Lake County Library for the library’s collection.

Teens who submitted book reviews were entered in a drawing for a Kindle e-reader, which Michaela Marsh won.

NICE, Calif. – A Northshore family is seeking the return of its missing dog.

Lilly, an 18-year-old Chihuahua, has gone missing in the Nice area.

Her family reported she was last seen around 9 a.m. Sunday on Plumas Street.

A picture of her was not immediately available, however she is described as black and tan in color with some gray due to her age, and she has a hard time seeing.

HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE, Calif. – The Hidden Valley Lake Community Services District will hold a regular board meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the boardroom at the district's offices, 19400 Hartmann Road.

Agenda items will include personnel, finance, and security and disaster preparedness program committee reports; discussion of member attendance at other meetings, including Association of California Water Agencies Region 1, ACWA State Legislative Committee and County OES; and the accountant/controller's report and general manager's report.

There also will be discussion and possible action on the Association of California Water Agencies Region 1 Board Member elections; adoption of Resolution 2013-13, Special District Risk Management Authority (SDRMA) Board Member Elections; a public hearing to consider placement of default balance liens on real property pursuant to Government Code Section 61115.

Other agenda items include adoption of Resolution 2013-14 confirming default balances and directing staff to file liens on real property; CPS HR Consulting Draft Base Salary Study Report dated June 21; and the refinement of district compensation policy.

The board will hold a closed session for a performance evaluation of the general manager.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17.
