NORTH COAST – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around the North Coast during the coming week.

Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.

LAKE COUNTY

Highway 53

– Highway widening and rehabilitation from 40th Avenue to the junction of Routes 20/53 will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Teichert Construction of Davis.

Highway 175

– Loch Lomond Mutual Water Company of Cobb has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility work near Road 4. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. A shoulder closure will be in effect. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– Evonne Elliott of Laytonville has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for tree trimming and utility installation from Anderson Springs Road to Berry Street. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 1

– Replacement of the Greenwood Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Golden State Bridge Inc. of Martinez.

– Elk Volunteer Fire Department has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit to hold the annual Great Day in Elk parade from Cliff Ridge Road to about 0.2 mile north of Elk on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

– Bridge painting at the Salmon Creek Bridge and the Albion River Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Jeffco Painting and Coating of Vallejo.

– Guardrail repairs at the Wages Creek Bridge will continue on Monday, Aug. 26. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 5-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Coral Construction of Wilsonville.

– Replacement of a culvert with a bridge at Dunn Creek will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Shasta Construction of Redding.

Highway 101

– Caltrans will perform slide repairs near the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge (near Frog Woman Rock). Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– Highway construction from 1.0 mile south of the Haehl Overhead Bridge to the Haehl Overhead Bridge will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. Intermittent full road closures will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor ‐ DeSilva Gates Construction of Dublin.

– Highway construction from 0.8 to 1.5 miles south of the North Willits Railroad Crossing will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. Intermittent full road closures will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor ‐ DeSilva Gates Construction of Dublin.

– Pavement repairs from Cummins Road to the junction of Routes 1/101 will begin Tuesday, Aug. 27. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. A shoulder closure will be in effect. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– PG&E of Eureka has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility repairs near the Stanley Creek Road Undercrossing on Monday, Aug. 26. Work hours are 10 a.m. to noon. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

Highway 162

– Guardrail repairs at various locations from the junction of Routes 101/162 to the Bloody Run Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Coral Construction of Wilsonville.

Highway 271

– Pavement repairs from Bear Pen Road to the Mendocino-Humboldt County Line will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor ‐ Northwest Paving of Redding.

Work on all these projects is weather permitting and subject to change. Caltrans advises motorists to drive with caution when approaching work areas and to be prepared to stop at traffic control stations.

The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Lake County CAN will hold a fundraiser concert to kick off its upcoming collection drive on Friday, Aug. 23.

All are welcome to the free concert, which will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the gazebo at Library Park in Lakeport.

The Lake Ministerial Association is hosting the concert in support of Lake County CAN.

Eight churches will be participating, and a variety of music will be offered.

Music will be provided by the following groups: Duo from Upper Lake United Methodist Church;
Wing and a Prayer (praise band from United Christian Parish); Lakeport 7th Day Adventist Community Church; Galilee/Grace E Free Combo; and New Hope Community Outreach Worship Band.

Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the music.

They will be passing out free Lake County CAN T-shirts and tote bags.

People are welcome to bring food for Lake County CAN's food drive.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – California 4-H turns 100 years old this year.

Enrich the celebration by sharing your 4-H stories and helping compile its history in Lake County.

Names and dates of All Stars and Diamond Stars are needed as well as pictures if available.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – All branches of the Lake County Library system will be closed Saturday, Aug. 31, to observe Labor Day.

Normal hours at all branches will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Konocti Vista Casino, in conjunction with the California BBQ Association, will host a Kansas City BBQ Society sanctioned professional barbecue event at the casino this Saturday, Aug. 24.

They will have 19 professional teams competing for $8,500 in cash prizes with additional trophies.

The event opens to the public at 1:30 p.m.

Featured at the event will be four Northern California microbreweries, including Lake County's own Kelsey Creek Brewery, as well as Mendocino Brewing Co., Lagunitas and Feather Falls Casino Brewing Co.

The No Name Car Club will hold an antique and classic car show at 50/50 raffle.

There is no gate fee for this event.

Visitors can come, purchase food and beer tickets, and taste professional barbecue either in samples or full meals of pulled pork or brisket sandwiches with side orders. They can vote for their favorite beer and car or truck.

The event ends at 5:30 p.m. with trophies given out for the Best Beer, The Smokin' BBQ Best of Best Car or Truck, Jalapeño Madness Best Custom Car/Truck, and Micro Brewers Choice-Pale Ale or Stout-Best Stock or Original Car/Truck.

Then at 6 p.m. the awards move indoors with the trophies and cash prizes for the professional barbecue teams.

Proceeds from the food sales, 50/50 raffle and donations from the car show attendees go to Lake County schools.

Last year Konocti Vista gave $1,000 each to the math and science classrooms at Mt. Vista Middle School in Kelseyville and the Terrace School in Lakeport.

Konocti Vista Casino is located at 2755 Mission Rancheria Road in Lakeport.
