KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Kelseyville Presbyterian Church is presenting to the community the 11th annual Housing Task Force Brisket Dinner and Dessert Auction on Saturday, March 1.

The delicious dinner of slow-cooked, melt-in-your-mouth brisket, with scalloped potatoes, baked beans and coleslaw, begins at 6p.m. in the church hall, located at 5340 Third St., behind Westamerica Bank.

A silent auction with some great prizes will be held, but the best part of the evening is the dessert auction, with delectable goodies from some of Kelseyville's best cooks.

Cost is just $12 for adults and $8 for children under 10.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Dr. Stephen Pollaine, a noted Lake County physicist, cosmologist and pianist, will speak at the Taylor Observatory’s monthly “Public Night” event on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 8 p.m.

The Taylor Observatory is located at 5725 Oak Hills Lane in Kelseyville.

Pollaine will address a compelling topic, “Science and Consciousness,” by exploring the question of whether human consciousness is generated by our brains, and is thus subject to the laws of physics, or whether consciousness is inherently non-physical.

Dr. Pollaine received his Ph. D. in Astrophysics from U. C. Berkeley followed by a 31-year career at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, working in fusion energy research.

His avocation is the piano. He is frequently heard playing at wineries, art galleries and restaurants throughout Lake County.

Public nights at the Taylor Observatory include the lecture, a planetarium show and, weather permitting, astronomical viewing through the observatory’s several telescopes.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Rotary Club of Clearlake is sponsoring its 11th annual Seafood Boil & Auction, a Mardi Gras-themed event, on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The event will take place at the Clearlake Senior/Community Center, located at 3245 Bowers Ave.

Tickets are $75 each and some are still available.

The seafood boil is the Clearlake Rotary Club’s major fundraiser. Monies raised go toward scholarships, local projects and an international project.

The Rotary Club of Clearlake was founded in 1973. Since then the club has continued to support the community in a variety ways.

That support includes annual scholarship donations to local, college bound seniors totaling with more than $250,000 to date, and giving more than 2,500 dictionaries to local third grade students.

Each year, Clearlake Rotary hosts its annual community Christmas dinner for all, complete with Santa photos and gifts for each child. This past December, more than 600 children received gifts and more than 900 community members were served dinner.

The club also has been a major sponsor of donations and work to the community's safe house for homeless teens, committed $25,000 to help fund the new emergency department at St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake, sponsored the Rotaract and Interact clubs, hosted exchange students and supported sending local students abroad for exchange years.

In addition, Rotarians have installed multiple bus stop shelters throughout the area, participated in developing Austin Park and the Lower Lake High School athletic field, worked and paid for dedication of Highway 53 as a Veteran’s Memorial Highway, and offered ongoing aid to the South Shore Little League, the Clearlake Senior/Community Center, Anderson Marsh State Historic Park, Konocti Unified School District and the city's annual fireworks display.

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – The Time Bank of Thrive Lake County will hold a sing-along social and meet up on Saturday, March 8, at Middletown Community United Methodist Church, 15833 Armstrong St., Middletown. All members and prospective members are welcome to attend.

Steve Pollaine, keyboardist extraordinaire, will lead the evening’s entertainment. Lyric books will be provided, and attendees are asked to bring a potluck dish to feed eight to share. It is hoped everyone will lend their voice in song, though if you just feel like listening, that is perfectly OK, too.

Prior to the sing-along, the time bank will hold its regular monthly meet-up. This event includes activities designed to answer your questions about, and get you started in, time banking.

You'll also learn how to get your needs met while helping others, and meet fellow time bankers who you can exchange time with.

Time bankers who attend this event can earn time credits in the following ways:

• Two hours credit for attending the entire meet up;
• One hour credit for each possible new member you bring;
• One hour credit for a potluck dish that serves eight.

The meet up will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. The sing along will begin after the meet up and run until 7 p.m. or later, depending on enthusiasm.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Former Lakeport Redevelopment Agency Oversight Board will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19.

The meeting will take place in the council chambers at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.

Agenda items include approval of the Oct. 16 meeting minutes and approval of the administrative budget for the Lakeport Redevelopment Successor Agency in the amount of $197,032 for fiscal year 2014-15.

The board also will consider adopting the Recognized Obligation Payment Schedule (ROPS) and associated resolution covering the period of July through December 2014, pursuant to Health and Safety Code section 34177(l) and (m).
