LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Tickets are on sale for the Lake County Wine Alliance’s 23rd annual Wine Auction, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The event will take place from 4:30 to 10 p.m. at the Shannon Family of Wines Mercantile in Lakeport.

Tickets are $175 each and include a gourmet dinner, wines and appetizers presented by local chefs, caterers and wineries.

To date the Wine Alliance has awarded almost $3 million to local groups who give back to their community.

Special focus has been placed on organizations centered in the arts, children, health and wellness.

The auction is the Wine Alliance’s only fundraiser, raising $226,000 last year for over 40 beneficiaries, including an array of local nonprofits as well as all of the county’s five high school arts, FFA and culinary programs.

This year’s Tastings on the Lawn will be offered by Aromas Café, Barbecue by Biasotti, Ferrigno’s Italian Baked Goods, Grillagan’s Island, On the Waterfront, Red’s at the Airport, Ripe Choice Catering, Santana’s and Saw Shop Public House.

Salad will be prepared by Chef Robert Riell of the Lower Lake High School Culinary Club.

A family-style dinner will be prepared by Chef Victor Castellon of the Saw Shop Public House, and dessert will be presented by Ann-Marie Pleskaczeqski of Woodland Community College with the Culinary Club at Clear Lake High School.

LAKEPORT, Calif. — On June 15, 21 young people who gathered at Library Park in Lakeport were given the opportunity to learn and practice fishing skills.

Collaboration between the Clearlake Bassmasters and the Lake County Sheriff’s Activities League, both local nonprofit organizations, made sure that students had a great day.

Upon arriving, participants were divided into groups led by Bassmaster volunteers and given the opportunity to learn and practice knot tying and casting.

Important information about local fishing and water and sun safety were provided.

When ready, participants were fitted with a life vest and headed toward the docks to fish and enjoy a beautiful day at the lake.

The morning concluded with a raffle drawing and all participants won fishing equipment or supplies provided by both organizations. Parents, volunteers and participants then enjoyed a hotdog lunch provided by the Sheriff’s Activities League.

For a final surprise, the Bassmasters allowed each participant to take home the pole they had used that day. Life vests were offered at no cost to participating families by the Clearlake Bassmasters.

Volunteers from both of these organizations give generously of their time and resources to ensure that Lake County kids enjoy the outdoors and learn skills that contribute to the pursuit of positive leisure time activities.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — The Lake County Watershed Protection District and Northshore Fire District said a control burn will take place on a section of the Upper Lake levee (Unit 5).

As local maintaining agency, or LMAs, of the Upper Lake levee system, the Lake County Watershed Protection District and Northshore Fire Protection District are working together to conduct vegetation maintenance via control burn of a section along Elk Mountain at Clover Creek.

The burn will happen within the week of June 17 to 23, with specific days contingent on weather and wind.

They want to make the community aware, if they see smoke in the area, it is a control burn.

This is also a notification for people with respiratory issues that a burn event will be happening in the area.
