LOWER LAKE, Calif. – The inaugural “Guns and Hoses Game” benefit will be held on Saturday, March 24.

The event begins at 6 p.m. at Lower Lake High School, 9430 Lake St.

“Guns and Hoses” will benefit Lower Lake High School athletics and, in particular, the boys' basketball program.

Come watch local heroes battle it out on the basketball court and support Lower Lake High School at the same time.

General admission is $5 and $3 each for children and seniors.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Lake County Department of Public Works will begin its annual routine “Roadside Weed Abatement Program,” weather permitting, this month.

The program involves applying herbicides along certain county-maintained roads this spring.

One or more of the following herbicides – Roundup Pro, Direx 4L, Telar XP, Alecto 41S and Pro Ams Plus Activator – may be used.

Roads that are anticipated to be sprayed include: Adobe Creek Road, Bachelor Valley Road, Bell Hill Road, Big Valley Road, Bottle Rock Road, Butts Canyon Road, Clark Drive, Clover Drive, Clover Valley Road, Crestview Drive, East Road, Elk Mountain Road, Gaddy Lane, Highland Springs Road, Hill Road, Hill Road East, Kelsey Creek Drive, Lakeshore Boulevard, Lakeshore Drive, Live Oak Drive, Martin Street, Mendenhall Avenue, Morgan Valley Road, New Long Valley Road, Nice-Lucerne Cutoff, North Drive, Old Lucerne Road, Park Drive, Park Road, Point Lakeview Road, Riggs Road, Scotts Valley Road, Seigler Canyon Road, Sky Park Drive, Soda Bay Road, Spruce Grove Road, Sulphur Bank Drive, Upper Lake Lucerne Road and Witter Springs Road.

Should residents or property owners abutting the roads listed below desire that no weed abatement occur adjacent to their residence or property, they must contact Public Works prior to March 19, unless a previous request for “no spray” was submitted to Public Works.

If you would like to remove an existing “no spray” status, you must contact Public Works at 707-263-2341.

As a reminder, property owners are responsible for maintaining their frontage in such a way that does not create nuisance conditions.

While people can request that their frontage not be sprayed, they must otherwise maintain their frontage to avoid creating a public nuisance that could be caused by overgrown weeds – fire hazard, aesthetics, sight distance, etc.

To assist those property owners who object to spraying, Public Works will review their proposed maintenance plans at no charge and issue them a no-fee encroachment permit to perform the maintenance as necessary.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – The Lower Lake Historical School Preservation Committee will present its 18th annual Fashion Festival on Saturday, March 24.

The fun begins at noon in the Schoolhouse Museum's Weaver Auditorium.

Those attending will enjoy seeing some fabulous new spring fashions provided by Lisa's Sizes 3-60 of Clearlake.

A delicious lunch will be served and there will be entertainment and, of course, the annual Hat Parade.

Prizes will be awarded for the most beautiful, most creative and best theme hats.

This year's theme is “Swing into Spring.”

Tickets are $20 and groups may reserve a table for 10.

Seating is limited and reservations are required.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Participants of the Adult Respite in Clearlake and Lucerne definitely got into an Irish mood during their garden therapy session led by members of the Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club recently.

The garden club comes monthly to the senior groups bringing garden related projects and supplies for the participants.

March was all about the Irish with green containers, green floral material with shamrocks as the finishing touch.

Jo Jameson, garden club member and chairperson of the garden therapy, plans and collects materials for all the projects with the help of other members.

Focus is on the enjoyment of each project, social interaction with others in the program, with visual, tactical, aromatic elements coming into play.

Each participant proudly takes their finished projects home with them each time

Garden club members volunteering for this month's Irish floral theme were Heide Thomason, Nora Gerrard and Jo Jameson.

Following the floral arranging activity Audrey Perry, pianist, delighted the participants and the volunteers with an Irish songfest.  

Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club meets at noon on the third Tuesday of the month – except July and August – at the Scotts Valley Women's Club House, 2298 Hendricks Road, Lakeport.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Main Street Association (LMSA) invites Lake County children from ages 0 to 12 to be in the Children’s Push Pull Pet Parade on Easter weekend, Saturday, April 7.

This parade is for kids who love to dress up and show off their pets. Dogs, cats, chickens, goats, ponies, hamsters, ponies – any pet is eligible.

Pets can be led on a leash, ridden, or pushed or pulled in wagons, on bikes or other nonpowered conveyances.

Prizes will be given in four age categories.

The parade is sponsored by the Lakeport Main Street Association, Pet Country, Furry Tails and Biggs 155.

The parade will start at 10 a.m. at Library Park in downtown Lakeport. There is no cost to enter.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Channel Cats swim team will host its Family Bingo Night on Saturday, March 17.

The fundraiser's doors will open at 4:30 p.m. with games beginning at 5 p.m. at the Lakeport Senior Center, 527 Konocti Ave.  

The cost for an adult is $15 for a pack of 12 games and $5 for children accompanied by an adult.  

Food will be available, including hamburgers, hot dogs, a variety of snacks and a bake sale.  

All proceeds will support the Clear Lake/Kelseyville High School swim team and the Westshore Pool.
