UPPER LAKE, Calif. – The Redwood Empire Civil War Roundtable will have its next meeting this coming Monday, May 7, starting at 6:15 p.m., at the historic Tallman Hotel in Upper Lake.

This month is the 150th anniversary of Stonewall Jackson's Valley Campaign and McClellan's Peninsula Campaign.

This was the month that the South appeared to be near defeat, suffering numerous setbacks on every front.

But a combination of Confederate ingenuity and Federal incompetence gave the south new hope and allowed them to turn the tables on the invading northerners.

This month's audio/visual presentations will explain these campaigns and how they effected the outcome of the war.

The roundtable was formed in late 2010 to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the American Civil War (Sesquicentennial), is open to everyone, and there is no charge.

The presentations are geared to be interesting to the historical novice and the junkie.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Memorial Day celebrations are planned in both Lakeport and Lower Lake again this year.

Lakeport’s Annual Memorial Day Parade, sponsored by Mendo Lake Credit Union and the Lake County Chamber of Commerce, will commence at 11 a.m. sharp on Main Street on Saturday, May 26.

Another generous supporter of this parade is Mendo Mill & Lumber, which is providing the Judges Stage in front of the Lake County Museum.

The very warm and familiar voice of Paul Reading will be heard as the parade announcer, according to chamber President Jim Magliulo.

Entry applications are available on the Lake County Chamber Web site, www.lakecochamber.com ; just click on the parade banner on the home page.

The parade route travels from the fairgrounds on Martin, entering Main at Martin streets and travels north to Clear Lake Avenue.

The chamber anticipates more than 60 entries reflecting the theme “Hello Summer!”

Each year this parade salutes the members of our Armed Forces retired and active. The parade is sanctioned by the California State Horsemen’s Association, which presents an opportunity for equestrians to earn points for the CSHA annual award. Kim Cipro of Hidden Valley Lake is the sanctioned CSHA Judge for the parade.

The chamber requests members of the public honor the “no parking” signs, which will be posted on Main Street from First to Fourth streets, calling for no parking during the hours of 10 a.m. to noon on May 26. This area will allow unobstructed views of the parade for spectators.

On Sunday, May 27, the Lake County Corvette Club will have a Corvette only show on Park and Second streets, between First and Third streets, next to Library Park.

The annual 4H Pancake Breakfast at Natural High School on Main Street will be hosted again this year from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, by the Lakeport Kiwanis who also sponsor a two-day craft faire at the same location.

All accommodations in Lake County will receive an email on May 23 with information on the festivities for their guests.

On Sunday, May 29, Lower Lake holds its Lower Lake Daze Parade on beginning at eleven a.m. with activities all afternoon until 4 p.m.

The Lower Lake Community Action Committee plans include a petting zoo, food and craft vendors, face painting, kids games, pony rides, a barbecue, music during the afternoon and a raffle. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit community projects.

Following the parade, all activities are in the park behind the new firehouse.

Call Lonne Sloan at 707-995-2515 for more information on the Lower Lake activities.
