LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Paul Thomas Mongi passed unexpectedly on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014.

He was the beloved son of Albert and Diana Mongi; brother to Kristine Valencia, Adrienne Mongi-Clark and Laura McGrath; grandson to Bert and Barbara Gomes; and brother to James Mongi.

Paul will be remembered as a gentle, sensitive soul who had, among many gifts and talents, a remarkable natural ability for drums and music. His sense of humor and quick wit will be really missed by all who knew him.

His reserved exterior and shyness did not always allow others to see his true desire to love and to be loved.

Those who loved him knew his sensitive feelings for others' suffering and his gentle way with animals.

He endured difficult challenges in life. Although the battles he fought were tremendously hard, he won't be remembered by those things, but rather by the beautiful person that he was.

We anxiously await to see him at his fullest potential, enjoying life when he is made new.

A gathering will be held at the Mongi residence at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – Laurene M. Borremans Cariker died in Napa on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at the age of 72.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, she was formerly of Tustin Meadows in Orange County.

Laurene had lived in the Lake County area, off and on, for about 30 years. She had worked as a secretary and nursing assistant, and was a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Jerry L. Cariker and a brother, Kurt Borremans.

Laurene is survived by her daughter, Lisa M. Cariker Baine of Lower Lake; sons, Kevin L. Cariker of Rio Rancho, NM and Lee J. Cariker of Arkansas; grandson, Christopher G. Baine of Lower Lake; granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Morgan Cariker; four great-great grandchildren; brothers, Gene Borremans of Redding, Jim Borremans of Texas and Doug Borremans of Nevada; and sister, Evelyn Borremans of Arkansas.

She also is survived by her partner, Allen Besgrove.

“My mother, Laurene Borremans Cariker, was a beautiful person, inside and out. She would pray for everyone else each night before she fell asleep. She called all people ‘honey or sweety.' My mother had extraordinary artistic abilities. Her paintings will last for a long time in all the places they are. That’s just to mention one thing. She was also a highly expert fisherman and even caught a very rare golden sturgeon. My mother was my rock, which she also painted. So many people are pouring over her Facebook page telling their wonderful stories they had with her. Thank you. My mother’s battle with cancer lasted a month but she was not alone. Her family, brothers, sister, daughter, and grandson were with her to the end. We all held hands and read the Lord’s Prayer before and after. I adorned her hair with pink roses and baby’s breath, then put a carnation on her chest. Mom believed in Jesus, so don’t worry. She is with him and the angels. One of my mom’s favorite silly songs was by Ray Stevens called “In The Mood”. If you find it, play it everywhere. If you hear chickens, you know you have the right song. Enjoy the whole song like she did. I love you mom, as we all do, and you are surely missed. Can’t wait to see you again”… Lisa Cariker Baine

“Committal to the Deep” – Laurene Cariker: Unto Almighty God, the soul of our Mother departed, and we commit her body to the deep; In sure and certain home of the Resurrection unto eternal life, through our Lord Jesus Christ. At whose coming, in glorious majesty to judge the world, the sea shall give up the dead: And the corruptible bodies of those who sleep in Him shall be changed and made like unto His glorious body; According to the mighty working whereby He is able to subdue all things unto Himself … Amen

Arrangements under the care of Jones & Lewis Clearlake Memorial Chapel of Lower Lake.
