Obits

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Butchie was loved from the second she opened her big brown eyes until the last time she closed them. She was known for her generous heart and love of fun.

Butchie was born Oct. 23, 1955, to William Hoyt Angelley and Marilyn Hoberg Angelley.

Her given name was Carolyn Gay Angelley, but she always preferred to go by her childhood nickname.

Butchie grew up on Cobb Mountain, attending school at the Little Red Schoolhouse until sixth grade, when she and her sister, Pam, rode the bus to Kelseyville Elementary and Kelseyville High School.

She loved the summers she spent at Hoberg’s Resort, swimming, horse riding and playing bingo.

Twenty-seven years ago, she met the love of her life, Douglas Knowles. She moved to San Marcos to be with him, and they married on Feb. 8, 1995, much to the delight of Bill and Marilyn, and the rest of the family.

When she married Doug, she also gained a son, Dylan, whom she loved dearly and was so proud of.

When her mother found living alone too difficult, Butchie left her home and moved to Cobb to care for Marilyn.

The Valley fire destroyed the home that she and Doug planned to retire in. The loss of her mother a week later was devastating, but Butchie and Doug courageously continued on, and were able to build the house of their dreams, where she lived happily until her death.

Butchie is survived by husband, Doug; son, Dylan; his fiancee, Lisa; and their children, Nora and Zoey.

She also leaves her sister, Pam, and brother-in-law, Ken Hook; nieces, Kate (Ken) Goldfine, Marilyn (Jeongtae) and their children, Go-eun and Alex, and nephew, Kory.

She is also mourned by her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Diane and John Meizis, and their children, Michael, Ashley and Mark, and grandnieces and nephews Alora, Ryder, Morgan and Everett.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Lake County or the American Lung Association.

Private services will be held at a later date.
