LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Surrounded by her immediate family, Matilda Anne Barquist passed in the early morning hours of Sept. 5, 2017.

Anne was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and grandmother. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Erik and Julie Barquist of Orlando, Fla.; her daughter, Kirsten Barquist of Lakeport, Calif.; and her granddaughter, Clarissa Barquist of Orlando.

Anne was raised by her parents, Willis Hubbell and Annetta Holdenreid Hubbell, in San Jose and Kelseyville, Calif.

She attended Kelseyville High School as well as Willow Glen High School and often spoke fondly of her time and classmates at Kelseyville High.

She attended college at both San Jose State and the University of California, Santa Barbara where she studied music.

She married William S. Barquist Jr. (Bill) in June of 1959. They lived throughout Southern California, eventually settling in the Santa Ynez Valley, just to the north of Santa Barbara.

While raising her family, she was known for her skills as a piano instructor, her leadership in the local 4-H club and her volunteer activity in the Episcopal Church. She also played second violin in the Santa Barbara Symphony during that time.

In 1984, Anne and Bill moved back to Lake County where they resided in Finley. Anne operated Quilted Treasures, a quilting and fabric store in Kelseyville, for many years before retiring in the early 2000s.

Anne was a supporter of music and donated to the Allegro Scholarship Fund as well as the local symphony. She attended the Mendocino Music Festival whenever possible.

She raised guide dogs. She continued to be an active volunteer and congregant in the Episcopal Church, St. John’s, located in Lakeport.

Services will be held for Anne on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Kelseyville Presbyterian Church, 5340 Third St. Burial rites will be read at the Sunday morning weekly service held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1190 N. Forbes St. in Lakeport, on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Allegro Scholarship Fund, 315 Avenue A, Lakeport CA 95453 or to the St. John’s Episcopal Church General Fund, 1190 Forbes St., Lakeport, CA 95453.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – Robert Stettler passed away on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at the age of 87.

Raised on a poultry farm in Petaluma he was the eldest son of Swiss immigrants, Hugo and Helen Stettler.

Following high school, Robert worked as a warehouseman at Poultry Producers in Petaluma, while attending College of Marin. It was there that he met his wife-to-be, Nancy Meyer.

In 1952 Robert joined the Army and served as part of the US occupation force in West Germany.

On returning stateside Robert enrolled at UC Berkeley, joined the Sigma Pi fraternity, and in 1955 married Nancy.

Soon after graduating in 1957 with a degree in criminology, Robert began work at the Orange County Crime Lab as a criminalist. Robert made his career in law enforcement, investigating hundreds of crimes over the 22 years he spent in the sheriff’s office.

Robert and his wife Nancy retired to Lake County where they began new endeavors in 1981. Nancy died of cancer on Jan. 1, 1998.

Robert’s daughter Heidi and her husband Chris welcomed Robert into their Belmont home in 2015. While in the Belmont community he became known as “the three dog walker” and made many friends at the senior fitness class at the local gym, the grocery store, and around town.

Robert is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Heidi Hagler; his grandchildren, Justin and Hanna; his brother, David Stettler; and nephews, Kenneth, Robert and David Stettler.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 3 p.m. at Crippen & Flynn Carlmont Chapel, 1111 Alameda de las Pulgas in Belmont.
