Donald Roy Einarsson

LAKEPORT, Calif. — Don passed away at home in Lakeport on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2021, at the age of 92.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 10, at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church at 1:30 p.m., with interment of ashes to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery with military honors to commemorate Don’s service in the Korean War.

Don is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Ellen Einarsson and Jill Combs; sons, Bob Ore (Julie) and Chris Ore (Kris); grandchildren and great grandchildren, Kevin Patzelt (Jacquie), Jennifer Simning (Bryan), Hunter, Blake and Paige Simning, Mary Crisp (Nick) and Kaylan Crisp, Jeffrey Combs, and Adaleiz and Alexa Ore.

He is predeceased by his son, Mark Einarsson; grandson, Gary Patzelt; siblings, Arthur, Melvin and Lorraine; and parents, Mundy and Audrey Einarsson.

Don retired from the California Highway Patrol and kept his CHP pride strong.

He loved golf and played for the SIRS for 32 years. Don served his community as a 3rd Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and as a member of the Lions Club.

We will remember Don as a big kid who made life fun and exciting and joyous.

The family welcomes donations in Don’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.

Joshua Lipscomb

Joshua Britt Lipscomb, aged 42, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021.

Joshua was born July 26, 1979 to Willard and Karen Lipscomb of Middletown, California.

As a boy Josh was always outside, testing the boundaries. He spent his early years riding his horse Lodi, going “full peed” down the driveway on his big wheel, and helping his dad around the shop.

When Josh got his first dirt bike, he fell in love with the sport so much, that was all he did. He spent countless hours on his bike out at Dead Horse, building jumps in the yard with the backhoe, and racing on the weekends.

Josh taught himself how to take his bike apart and put it back together, which he did many times. He was the type of person who could be shown something one time and master it.

After leaving California for Colorado when he was 20 years old, Joshua’s biggest and greatest accomplishment took place: the birth of his son Brodie Britt.

Seventeen years ago Josh welcomed his son into this world and from that minute on the love Josh felt for his best buddy was very special.

Josh spent every minute when he was off work, when Brodie was little, with a side kick following him, helping his dad with projects around the house. Brodie learned so much from his dad.

The minute Brodie could walk Josh couldn't wait to get him a dirt bike. He was 3 years old the first time his dad put him on one, he has never stopped riding.

Brodie and Josh spent many days at the track, practicing, racing and just hanging out. Those are some of his best memories with his dad. Josh didn't love anyone more than his son. Brodie will think of his dad every time he hops on his bike.

Josh became a crane operator and was very proud of his job. He traveled the country building everything from airports to wind farms.

His favorite build was when he set the last beam at the Olympic Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Joshua's most recent job was building the new high speed train “to nowhere” in California. Josh said on a daily basis, “I’m building America Goddamnit!”

In August of 2020 Josh married his wife Kalie, a partner who was excited to travel the country with him while he followed his dream and stood by him through thick and thin.

Joshua and Kalie also have a dog named Bocephus or BoBo for short. Bocephus would go to work with Joshua every day and they were never apart. Bocephus put a smile on Joshua’s face.

Josh was charismatic and could make friends everywhere he went. He loved to teach anyone that was interested about cranes; there have been several of his friends who followed in his footsteps.

Joshua was loved by many and leaves behind sad family and friends.

Josh is survived by his parents, Willard and Karen Lipscomb; his son, Brodie Lipscomb; his wife, Kalie Lipscomb; sister, Jenna Duckhorn, mother of his favorite nieces and nephews; his brothers, Willie and John Lipscomb; and many friends who miss him greatly.

Memorial service planned for Simpson Aug. 20

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. — A memorial service for longtime Kelseyville resident John Richard “Rich” Simpson will be held on Friday, Aug. 20.

The service will begin at 11 a.m. at Kelseyville Presbyterian Church, located at Third and Church streets.

Simpson, a Kelseyville resident for over 40 years and loving partner to Oleta Simpson for 67 years, died Sept. 27, 2020.

Rich made the most of his time in life and was loved dearly by his friends and family.

Violet Smoley

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Violet Louise Smoley passed away in her sleep the evening of August 19, 2021 at home. She was 91.

Born in Arkansas in 1929, her family moved to California in 1940.

Married to John Smoley in 1948, they had a son, John, in 1956, a daughter, Lisa, in 1959 (died two days after birth), and a son, Philip, in 1961.

In 1995 her husband of 46 years died and she never remarried. She was the last remaining of her five siblings.

Vi's primary role was wife and mother, though she held a variety of jobs now and then. She was a devoted Christian, and lived her life as such.

In her last years she suffered from dementia. But she never lost her humor and wit, she could see humor in almost everything; smiling to the end. She loved singing her favorite songs, lyrics of which she always could remember.

She was a classy lady that never lost her sense of Southern hospitality, charm, and had a high level of compassion and empathy. She was a woman of high character, integrity, honesty, and expected the same in others, and she inspired others to be better people. Wherever she went, people liked or loved her; she made people happier.

Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, 1625 N. High St. Lakeport.

Alden Vincent Miller
June 21, 1962 - Aug. 12, 2021

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Alden always shared his sweets with the little people in his life.

No matter your age, he would call you by your childhood nickname.

He played mean air drums, especially when AC/DC was on the radio.

His big smile will be missed by many as well as his craziness.

Alden is survived by sisters, Eileen Brown, Coveda Miller and Jacqueline Miller; children, Justina Jackson, Siricuse and Jenna Miller, and Mauain Johnson; grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the Habematolel Community Center in Upper Lake on Thursday, Aug. 19, at 9 a.m.

A graveside service will be at Upper Lake Rancheria Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m.

Jarth Oates

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Jarth Oates was born in McCloud, California, the son of Dorothy Ludwig Oates and Jack Phillip Oates, on Dec. 8, 1932, and passed from this life on Aug. 9, 2021.

Jarth attended a one-room schoolhouse near Calistoga called Tarwater School and later graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1950.

He Joined the National Guard at 17 with some of his buddies, and served six years in reserve duty.

Jarth married young to Marilyn McHale and they had a family of three sons, of which Jarth was very proud. They lived in Santa Rosa where he worked for Bank of America.

He became an apprentice floorcovering installer, eventually moving to Marin County in search of a greater income for his family. He worked hard, often on the weekends, and became an expert in his field.

He took up bowling for relaxation and loved it. He joined the Native Sons of the Golden West in Fairfax where they resided at the time.

Life changed, and Jarth was single for a couple of years and raised his boys on his own in the family home.

He met and married Patricia Ratto (Patty) and they combined families to have six children and purchased a brand-new home in Sleepy Hollow.

The next 10 years were challenging; Jarth served as president of the Native Sons, and was invited to join the Elks Club in San Rafael and obtained his contractors license and went into business as Oates Floorcovering.

Jarth was 50 when most of the children were grown, he was able to retire from floorcovering and receive his union pension.

He decided to change his life and get away from the traffic in Marin; in 1983 the Oateses moved to their lakefront house in Lakeport, which Jarth remodeled room by room. After living there 18 years and being flooded four times, they moved to higher ground and closer to town.

Jarth sold manufactured homes locally for many years, then in 1987, Jarth and Patty bought Lake County Cleaners. For 19 years, their business was known for good customer service and very good work.

They were very active in local groups and activities. Jarth served as president of the Chamber of Commerce twice, president for Early Lake Lions and had fun with the Resort and Restaurant Owners Association.

He was a charter member of the Elks 2704 in Lakeport and enjoyed his participation in Lakeport Rotary. He loved cars, and was on the roster of the No Name Car Club, owned several hot rods, and received numerous trophies and awards for them. He was a fan of local car racing and worked on some of the cars for Stokes Racing.

Jarth was a Realtor with Country Air Properties in his last working years.

He came from humble beginnings and was gratified and proud of his accomplishments in life. He loved all of his family dearly.

Jarth leaves his wife of 49 years, Patty; sons, Norman and Rodney; daughter, Angela Ratto; sister, Beverlee Bennett; half siblings, Jack, Jeff, Frances and Chris Oates; grandsons, Brendon
Egan, Mark and Parker Coggins; granddaughter, Christine Aikin; great-grandchildren; nieces; and a nephew.

He is predeceased by Mark Oates, and Joey and Larry Ratto.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
