KELSEYVILLE, Calif. — Stanley George Bergesen passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 22, 2022, in Lake County, California. He was 86 years old.

Stanley was born in 1935 in San Francisco, California, to Gus and Esther Bergesen. He grew up in Millbrae, California, and graduated from Capuchino High School in 1954.

While in high school he excelled in art, sports and played lead trumpet in the school band. In 1953, Stanley was in the California Youth Symphony in San Francisco.

He was on the track team and was in the North Coast Finals in broad jump. He had a passion for board bike riding and qualified for the National Junior Division Board Track race where he placed fifth in the nation.

At the end of January 1955 Stanley enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean War in the artillery division and was stationed in Japan and Korea and returned to the United States in 1957.

He married and started a family a few years later. He worked for the family business Bergesen Electric as an electrical contractor.

Stanley graduated from San Jose State University in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in interior design. He became a general contractor and architect and owned Bergesen Design.

His designs were one of a kind and Better Homes and Gardens featured his house he designed and built in the Santa Cruz Mountains in their magazine. He loved art and designed his first home in the seventh grade.

He was working at Stanford University Linear Accelerator (government lab) as a facilities engineer and retired after 15 years.

In 1991, he bought a corner lot on Bergesen Drive in Kelseyville, California. His uncles once owned the hillside and he was excited to live on a street named after his family.

He built his home on the weekends, holidays and vacation time while working for Stanford.

Stanley became a permanent resident of Lake County, where he designed 30 homes and built several of the homes he designed.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Jo Bergesen; daughters, Sheri Wilson and Shawn Vandenbrandhorninge (husband Stef); sons, Scott Bergesen (wife Maile), Brit Bergesen (wife Veronica); stepsons, Charles Eads (wife Julia) and Neil Eads (wife Breanna); 14 grandchildren; his sister, Karen Miller of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and his brother, Richard Bergesen of Tucson, Arizona.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Grace Church, 6716 Live Oak Drive, Kelseyville. The service will be located in the auditorium to the left of the front of the church. The reception will follow; please bring a side dish to share.

Joan P. Brennan

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Joan P. Brennan, born in Scarborough, England, on June 13, 1926, passed away peacefully on Sept. 11, 2022, at the age of 96.

She was survived by her daughter, Carol Meador; son, David Brennan and his wife, Audrey; three grandchildren, Olivia, David Jr. and Joseph Brennan and his wife Kindah; and two great-grandchildren, Jeremiah and Alexandria.

Everyone who came in contact with our mother said what a beautiful and inspirational woman she was. We will all miss her dearly.

There will be a private family memorial.

Shirley Roxson

Shirley Marie Roxson
Sept. 21, 1934 — Sept. 16, 2022

Shirley Marie Roxson of Lodi, California, passed away on Sept. 16, 2022, surrounded by her family.

Shirley was born in Bakersfield, California, on Sept. 21, 1934.

In 1960 she met her husband, George, at Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, California. George was a captain for the Santa Rosa JC campus police and Shirley worked in the Business Administration Office on campus.

George and Shirley married on Oct. 25, 1961, in Carson City, Nevada. They moved to Lake County in 1961, where Shirley was a medical secretary for 30 years. George and Shirley resided in Lakeport until 2018 when they moved to Lodi to be closer to family.

Shirley is survived by George, her husband of 60 years, her daughter, Sheryl and her son, Randy (Margaret).

Shirley is also survived by her brother, Darrell (Suzy) and her sister, Judy (Floyd).

Known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren as “Gramie,” Shirley is survived by her grandchildren, Ashley (Damon), Kyle, Gregory (Lynette) and Alex (Hannah) and her great-grandchildren, Landon, Caylee, Vanessa, Aria, Ella, George and Theo. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Shirley is predeceased by her brother, Michael and her grandson, Ryan.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 23, at 10 a.m. at Cherokee Memorial, Vineyard Chapel, 14165 N. Beckman Road, Lodi, CA 95240.

Thomas Maguire

Thomas (Tom) Grover Maguire passed away peacefully at the hospital in St. Helena, California, on Aug. 24, 2022. He had just celebrated his 85th birthday.

Tom had a large and loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Fran; stepdad, Herman; brother, Jack; sister, Diane; wives, Annette and Helen; and his daughter, Rochelle.

He was married to first wife, Annette, the mother of his four children, Dan, Rochelle, Natalie and Terry, for 20 years, and to Helen his wife of 25 years.

Tom’s family included sons and daughters-in-law, Larry, Jeffrey, David, Michelle, and Mia. He also was blessed with four grandchildren: Jake, Jeremy, Joshua and Dylan.

Tom was a native San Franciscan and worked in broadcasting in the San Francisco Bay Area and across the country. He gained notoriety for his inventive advertising and promotional campaigns including the use of a local celebrity to brand his television station, Channel 36 as “The Perfect Thirty-Six.”

Much to the delight and occasional chagrin of his children, Tom became a local celebrity in his own right as he appeared in several long running television commercials in the Bay Area. Tom’s last television job was in Florida’s capital city of Tallahassee, where he ran the local NBC station. He retired back to Northern California, to his beloved Clear Lake.

Tom was an avid reader, and was interested in news, and politics from an early age. Through his job he had the good fortune of getting to meet many newsmakers of the day, including presidential candidates from Kennedy to Clinton. He famously relinquished his downtown San Jose office for then-Gov. Ronald Reagan, and later was able to joke with him about it when Reagan was in higher office.

Tom was a long-time member of A.A. and served in several leadership positions, including as trustee. He often cited the profound effect that the organization had on his life and his family.

A funeral mass for Tom will take place at Blessed Sacrament Church in Tallahassee, Florida on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m.

Tom, his son and grandson were stricken by a neurological disorder, Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease, or CMT, and donations to the foundation in his memory are welcomed: www.cmtfr.org.

Dewitt Bouker

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Dewitt Clinton (Buck) Bouker passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Friday, September 9, 2022 in Lakeport, California.

He was born April 28, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York.

Buck enjoyed many passions during his life, the last was being Santa Buck and bringing much joy to children as Santa Claus during the Christmas season.

He was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Real Bearded Santas. He was also radio DJ for Lake County Community Radio.

Buck is survived by five daughters, Cheri Noella, Denise Charlotte, Viola Louise, Vicky Lynn and Tammy Jo; two sons, Guyjohn Otis and Dewitt Clinton (Dusty); three step-daughters, Bonnie Hiraide, Robin Colt and Tracy Twomey; stepson, Richard Perry; and many grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Velma, and parents, John and Edythe.

Buck, you will be missed.

Louise Runne

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Louise Rachel Runne, who loved to be called “Momma” by her kids, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 10, 2022.

Louise was born in Durango, Colorado on July 28,1937 to Guadalupe and Manuel Martinez. Lousie had eight children with Julio Velasquez (D): Vidal Velasquez (D), Priscilla Campbell (Kenny), Antonio Velasquez (Geri), Julia McCardell (Mike), Lizardo Velasquez (Gretchen), Barbara Velasquez (D), Edward Velasquez (Kim) and Hope Velasquez (Mike), and two stepchildren, Manuel and Louella (Lela) Velasquez.

She raised her children with much love, laughter and a stern hand.

She also had 12 grandchildren, Christopher, Michael and David Campbell, Melissa Martinez, Jennifer and Ryan McCardell, Jacob and Emerson Velasquez, Myle, Moses and Roman Velasquez and Kade Velasquez Hilden.

She also has 14 great-grandchildren, Ceejay, Timothy and Avyen Campbell, Leanne, Marissa, and Raquel Campbell, Joseph, Angel and Kane Campbell, Alex and Michael Ponce, Bella and David Beatty, Connor McCardell; and one great-great-grandchild, Elijah Campbell.

Louise was a longtime resident of Lakeport, moving here in 1987 with her first husband Julio and their three children. Julio passed away in 1989 and Louise was single for several years.

She found love again in 1992 when she met Fritz Runne. They were married one year later and are now celebrating 30 years as we speak.

When she married Fritz she gained four more children, Bobby, Bruce (D), Sandy (D) and Sharon, which also came with seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She loved them like they were her own. She was loved very much by all her family and will be missed greatly.

She loved bowling, dancing and, most of all, hitting up the casino. She would often be seen at the casino drinking a Budweiser with her best friends, trying to become millionaires and talking about what they would do with the winnings. We all would have been taken care of well, had they ever won.

She had a blessed life in Lake County, surrounded by a multitude of great and loving friends and could not imagine her life anywhere else.

She was a devout catholic and loved to attend St. Mary’s Church.

She was surrounded by family the day the Lord called her home. She was once again reunited with her sister, Helen; Mother; Father; children, Vidal (Bee) and Barbara; her grandson, David; two beloved husbands, Julio and Fritz; and a whole slew of other family members and friends.

She is survived by her sister, Priscilla Samora, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Louise’s Rosary will be held at the Chapel of the Lake Funeral Home in Lakeport at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16. A service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 10:30 a.m. at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Lakeport, with a reception to follow at New Hope Church at 305 Peckham Court in Lakeport.
