Kevin C. Edwards (Sensei) passed away on July 9, 2013, in St. Helena at the age of 63.

He leaves behind his loving family; sister, Karen Koelling (Floyd) of Fairfield; brother, Keith Edwards of Addy, Wash.; nieces and nephews, Denise and Greg Ibsen and their daughters Gabby and Jaydra of Colorado, Dan and Shirley Koelling of Fairfield and their son DJ who is currently active duty Air Force in Mississippi, Brian and Rachel Koelling and daughter Brooke of Vacaville, and Brad and Amarissa Koelling and son Wade Fremont.

He also leaves his aunt and uncle, Robert and Julie Edwards of Santa Cruz and Diana Munk of Washington; cousins Bob McGowan, Phyllis Horton and Loraine Lawyer.

He was loved by many everywhere and had his own adopted family members in Lake County as well. He will be missed by all.

Kevin was born in New London, Conn., and graduated from San Mateo High in 1969 then later attended San Jose State and received his associate’s degree.

He was a Vietnam veteran and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Purple Heart and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

In his life he wore many hats, soldier, LVN, acupressure specialist, engine mechanic, and social worker for Clearlake Social Services, however his heart was in his Tae Kwon Do classes. He enjoyed his martial arts and taught baton to the police department of San Jose, Calif., and then started his own school in Clearlake when he moved there around 1989.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 15, at 10 a.m. at Jones & Lewis Clear Lake Memorial Chapel, Lower Lake. Inurnment will be private.

James Edward Flockton of Kelseyville, Calif., passed away July 5, 2013 at the age of 56.

He is survived by his brother, Berkeley (Nancy) Flockton, and his wife, Judith Trimble.

James Newman Arnold passed peacefully July 1, 2013, in San Jose, Calif.

Jim, as he was known, was a past resident of Lakeport, Calif.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy Arnold.

He is survived by his children, Gary (Linda), Carolyn Scaglione and Scott (Lisa).

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lakeport.

Jim will be laid to rest at Hartley Cemetery, Lakeport.

Donald Alvin Haskins passed away on July 8, 2013, in Lakeport, Calif.

Born June 16, 1931, in Kelseyville, Calif., he was 82 years old.

He is the son of Alvin E. and Noma Ione Nobles Haskins.

He married Margery J. Hudspeth on March 29, 1953, in Kelseyville. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2013. They lived in Los Angeles for many years and moved back to Lakeport in 1993.

He attended Kelseyville High School and enjoyed all of the typical activities of a Lake County youth including hunting, fishing, playing whichever sport happened to be in season, and of course, worked in the pear orchards.   

After high school he served on a hospital ship in the Navy and soon thereafter joined his father and started Economy Roofing in Santa Monica, Calif., and years later his sons joined him at Economy Roofing.   

He loved and played many sports but his prowess with the pool cue was legendary around Lake County and later in Los Angeles. He loved his San Francisco Giants and the other Bay Area sports teams.  

He never lost his love for Lake County as a fifth generation descendant of the early settlers of Lake County, and visited frequently when he lived in Los Angeles.  

He is survived by his wife, Margery Haskins of Lakeport; three children, Richard A. Haskins (Lorie), Debra L. Haskins (Paul) and Randal R. Haskins (Ivy); four grandchildren, Steven (Katherine), Jonathan (Monica), Christian and Emily Haskins; and six great-grandchildren, Lauren, Elizabeth, Caroline, James, Michael and Russell Haskins all of Los Angeles.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 19, at Kelseyville Cemetery.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – A memorial celebration for Carl Stewart will be held on Saturday, July 13, at 2 p.m. at the Soper-Reese Community Theatre on Main Street in Lakeport.  

Anyone wishing to honor the life of Stewart is invited to attend.

Local musicians and friends will participate to honor Stewart, including performances of his original music.

Carl Stewart was a Lake County educator, musician and community supporter. A trained musician, he was well-known for his varied musical talents and performances.  

He was a teacher in the Konocti Unified School District until cancer forced his early retirement in the fall of 2012. He died on May 7, 2013.

Mo Fitch was born Morrell W. Fitch Jr. April 18, 1937, at home in Westminster, Calif. He lost his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on June 28, 2013, surrounded by friends, family and firefighters.

Mo always saw the positive side of life, even through his toughest battles, making all around him smile, cracking jokes, loving people. He loved to dance, sing, play, it was his nature. Mo loved life and he loved his family, friends and his Heavenly Father. He seemed to exist to serve others.

At age 17, Mo won Field N Stream Northern Division Bass Tournament First Place Irvine Lake for catching a 12 pound large mouth bass.

At 17 he joined the United States Navy, served on an LST in the Pacific during the Korean War.

On July 1, 1957, 10 days after discharge, Mo was employed by California Department of Forestry in Orange County, Calif.

Mo attended Chaffey College, Fresno State, U.C. Berkeley. After many years of attending colleges, on his off-duty time, he achieved his bachelor's of science degree with a major in fire administration.

Mo married, had five children and continued in the fire service, working for city and state fire departments for 30 years, such as California State Marshal's Office, training and developing fire standards and instruction manuals, the Office of Emergency Services as an assistant fire chief assisting in the management of major disasters such as wild fires, floods, earthquakes and mudslides.

In 1987 Mo retired from the Office of Emergency Services going on to Mt. San Antonio College, Southern California as an educator and fire science coordinator.
 
Wanting to move away from the traffic, smog and hustle bustle of Southern California, Mo was approached by a headhunter to work as fire chief in Sonoma County, which he accepted.

Mo remarried in 1994 to Sherry L. McCleary.

In 1995 Mo was hired as the first paid fire chief for the Upper Lake Fire District in Upper Lake, Calif.

In 2000, Mo retired and went on to encourage the local colleges to start a fire science program, which after a few years was instituted. Mo taught these classes at Yuba College and Mendocino College.

During Mo's career he built and taught large oil fire schools throughout the state, burned up several city blocks in Burbank as a fire training exercise, making way for the World Fair to take place there, participated in developing California Standard Certification programs and fire officer programs, and delivered 13 babies.

Up until this season, Mo has been a part-time lookout for the U.S. Forest Service in the Mendocino National Forest on Highglade Lookout for several seasons consecutively.

In May of 2009, Mo was diagnosed with a terminal disease, pancreatic cancer.

March 1, 2011, Mo was awarded a proclamation by the Lake County Board of Supervisors for his “body of work.”

Mo continued his involvement in his community, serving as a member of the Upper Lake Town Council since 1995 and also was on the board for the Northshore Fire Protection District.

Mo leaves behind his “bride” of 19 years, Sherry; children, Michael Fitch, Marshall Fitch, Mo the 3rd, Michelle Allen and Mona Gaskins; stepsons, Kip McCleary and Kirk McCleary; and all with wonderful spouses and children. He leaves behind a progeny of 24 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Mo was very proud of his Choctaw Indian heritage and even took language classes online.

Mo Fitch will always live within us, for the gifts of himself that he gave us, the lessons and example he was to us all.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located at 600 16th St., Lakeport. Funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., with interment at Upper Lake Cemetery.
