July 3 memorial celebration planned for Leszek Forczek

LAKEPORT, Calif. – A memorial celebration in honor of Leszek Forczek will take place on Wednesday, July 3.

The service will begin at 1 p.m. at Lakeport Community Church, 3500 Park Way (Hill Road and Park Street exit off of Highway 29).

All are welcome.

There will be an exhibition of his "Illuminism" paintings and other memories in the Fellowship Hall.

Meet both old and new friends (from near and far) while enjoying fine food and listening to good music.

Michael Hart

LUCERNE, Calif. – Our big brother Michael George Hart passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 in Lucerne at the age of 73.

Michael will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Stephen (Barbara) and Daniel (Luana). He will also be fondly remembered by his six nieces and nephews, Alicia (Niloy) Chatterjee, Nathan (Nichole) Hart, Emily (Chris) Hornsby, David Hart, Damon Hart, Shane (Kathryn) Ross and all of their children, Preston, Kaylee, Gabrielle, Julia, Andrew, Clayton, Justice, Hallie and Kaia.

Michael was born April 2, 1946, in California to Dr. Winfield and Dorothy Hart. He lived most of his life in Sacramento where he attended Sacramento High School and then Sacramento City College.

He was always very athletic throughout his life, participating in many sports and activities like football, baseball, boxing, golf, swimming, whitewater rafting, snow skiing, and his passion for bike riding.

Michael had a great love of the outdoors and while in high school he earned the rank of an Eagle Scout. That passion of helping others and being in the outdoors transferred over to his many diverse occupations.

He worked as a fireman for the Arden Fire Department, he was a whitewater rafting guide on the American River, he was a member of the Squaw Valley Ski Patrol, a prospector, a taxi cab driver and dispatcher, and a bartender.

Michael's last 15 years of his life were spent in Lucerne. He loved the Clear Lake area, the people, and especially his family of friends at the Boathouse.

Throughout Michael's life his greatest love was his dogs. Michael was a devoted animal lover and could never pass up an animal in need.

Michael's celebration of life service will be private. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Michael to the SPCA of Lake County, 8025 Highway 29, Kelseyville, CA 95451 or any SPCA of your choice.

Dolores Etsitty

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Dolores Etsitty was born Dolores Anderson to parents, Alvin and Beulah in Lakeport, Calif., in August of 1941. She passed away May 26, 2019, in Santa Rosa, Sutter Hospital.

Dolores was truly loved by family and friends. She loved the art of conversation and she was an expert at it.

She grew up on the original Sugar-Bowl Rancheria and was so proud of her Pomo/Cahto heritage. She was a member of her Dad's tribe, the Robinson Band of Pomo Indians.

As a young girl she went to Clear Lake Union High School and was an accomplished band majorette.

After graduating school she went to San Francisco to attend cosmetology school, which she completed and worked in that profession for years.

Dolores met and married Edward Ettsity and they had three children, Janelle, Donovan and Dion. Janelle Severson has two sons, Aldo and Dakota. Donovan has two sons Edward and Kenny. Dion has two daughters, Francine and Ash. Dolores loved and cherished her whole family. Steven "Eggie" Elliott is the only sibling left. His sons are Delaney, Tacoma and Edward.

Visitation for Dolores will start at Robinson Rancheria Gym on Wednesday, June 5, at 3 p.m. (overnight).

Thursday morning, June 6, funeral services will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with graveside service at Hartley Cemetery to follow at 1 p.m. After dinner TBA.

Benito Martinez Villalobos
July 11, 1938 to June 4, 2019

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Benito was born in La Estancia Zacatecas, Mexico, on July 11, 1938, to Refugio and Victoria, the third of four children. He grew up in Zacatecas and moved to the U.S when he was 19.

Benito passed on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather. He passed away peacefully in the presence of his family at his home in Kelseyville.

Benito married Nicolasa in 1960. They moved to California in 1974 where Benito was a farm labor worker in the vineyards. He was loved by many and was a well-respected man throughout the community.

Benito and Nicolasa had eight children before moving their family to Kelseyville in 1977. They had another child in 1979, for a total of nine. They were immediately embraced by a group of amazing Kelseyville locals. The friendships that started then endured through all the years of his life. Benito helped the community at Saint Peter's and St Mary’s churches for years.

Benito was recognized as the Campesino Worker of the year on Nov. 2, 2008. The award was given to Benito at Luther Burbank Center for the Arts because of his hard work. He loved and enjoyed being a farm labor worker retiring in 2009 after 55 years.

Benito leaves behind his beloved wife, Nicolasa; son, Jesús, with grandchildren, Erik, Adan and Steven; daughter, Celia, with grandchildren, Maria, Jose, Hipolito Jr., Victor and Alma; daughter, Rosa, with grandchildren, Rosalia, Sallie and Salvador III; son, Roberto, with grandchildren, Brittany, Monica, Christian and Annabeth; son, Luis, with grandchildren, Sebastian, Adrian and Kasandra; daughter, Cecelia, with grandson, Samuel Jr.; son, Mario, with grandchildren, Preston and Zachary; daughter, Marta, with grandchildren, Jessica and Israel Jr.; son, Ricardo, with granddaughter, Autumn; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary on Monday, June 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. with Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 11, at 11 a.m. followed by his holy eternal rest at Kelseyville Cemetery.

Marilyn Wallace

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County native and longtime Lakeport resident Marilyn Belle Davidson Wallace passed away peacefully Sunday, June 2. She was 84.

Born June 10, 1934 in Ukiah – Lakeport had no hospital at the time – Marilyn grew up in the orchards of Big Valley outside of Lakeport, Calif.

Her parents, Clarence and Rachel, grew pears, prunes, walnuts and a big garden on Argonaut Road, where she and her husband, Richard Brindley Wallace, later resettled and built their home in 1965.

Marilyn’s grandparents moved into the county in a horse-drawn wagon over the old Hopland toll road, and her grandmother, Belle Davidson, established the Lake County Museum with local Native American artifacts.

Reminiscing about an idyllic country childhood, Marilyn recalled learning to drive “a Ford Model A stick shift bumping through my dad’s pear orchard.” She would later boast that in all her life’s travels she never received a traffic citation.

Marilyn began working in the pear sheds at age 15, hand-packing pears into wooden boxes and eventually working her way up to weigh master.

After her graduation from Clear Lake Union High School in 1952, Marilyn married Victor Thomas, who was in the Navy, which required the couple to make several moves as they raised two children, Marc and Robbin.

The couple divorced in 1958, as Marilyn took on the difficult tasks of raising two young children while working as a bookkeeper at a number of area businesses, including Charles Krug Winery in St. Helena, the El Rancho Resort and James Hurley & Associates, both in Santa Rosa.

Marilyn credits her daughter, Robbin, with introducing her to her second husband, Richard, a Santa Rosa neighbor at the time who was busy raising three kids of his own, Ric, Mike and Ron. The newly blended bunch added yet another member with the birth of Susan in 1964.

Marilyn recalled her days as a mother of six as a whirl of activity, including Boy Scouts, school sports, Little League, Rainbow Girls, and 4-H. “A really great gang, but so busy and they were all mine!” she said.

In her so-called retirement, Marilyn was an active member of the Grace Church in Kelseyville, Order of the Eastern Star and a Hospice volunteer, as well as participating in her Bible study group, Konocti Quilters, Ladies of the Lake and other quilting groups between Lakeport and Ukiah.

In addition to working in her sewing room, Marilyn enjoyed “taking care of my yard full of birds, going to southern gospel concerts, cruising to Alaska and spending time with wonderful friends and family.”

She added, “The kids are all grown up and I’m so proud of each one.”

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Richard in 1990, her brother Francis McNaughton Davidson in 1998 and her granddaughter Brooke in 2004.

She is survived by brother, Clarence Orden Davidson of Lakeport; children, Susan Conlon of Santa Rosa, Robbin Edick of Warnerville, NY, Marc Thomas of Lakeport, Ron Wallace of Sebastopol, Mike Wallace of Brasstown, SC, and Ric Wallace of Carson City, NV; grandchildren Riley, Sean, Ben, Carley, Brian, Marisa, Sam, Andrew, Sarah and Nathan; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, 11 a.m., at Grace Church in Kelseyville.

Please wear blue on Wednesday as that was her favorite color.

Donations may be made in Marilyn’s memory to Hospice Services of Lake County or a church of your choice.

Katsuko Duncan

Katsuko Duncan
Nov. 24, 1946 – May 22, 2019

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Katsuko Duncan was born on Nov. 24, 1946, in Tokyo, Japan to Yoshiyuki and Satsuki Fukuta.

She passed away at home May 22, 2019.

She was the youngest of three children, a brother, who died at the age of 5, and a sister, Seiko Fukuta, who presently lives in San Francisco.

Katsuko is survived by her sister, Seiko Fukuta; her daughter, Sherry Lelevich (Jeff); stepson, Earl (Buddy) Wallat III (Cathy); her stepdaughter, Season Duncan; four grandsons, Justin, Julian, Jason and Jeremy Machado; step-granddaughter, Kacelyn Scott; a nephew, Tad Chiyo; niece, Takeno Chiyo Suzuki; and her husband, Al Duncan.

Katsuko was preceded in death by her father and mother, a brother, and first husband, Earl (Bud) Wallat Jr.

Katsuko and Bud were the proprietors of two successful businesses in Lake County. Their start was Western Auto in Lakeport followed by Radio Shack franchises located in Lakeport and Clearlake.

Katsuko married Al Duncan in 2009 and they celebrated their 10th anniversary April 17 of this year.

God rest her soul.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at Community Baptist Church, 2877 Highway 20 in Nice.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Northshore Fire Department, 6257 Seventh Ave., Lucerne, CA, in memory of Katsuko Duncan.
