LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Gail Treppa, 68, of Lake County passed away at home, Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018.

Gail was born in Lakeport, Calif., on May 30, 1950, to Lester and Lorraine Treppa (both deceased).

Gail Treppa graduated from Ukiah High School and received her college degree in early childhood education from Mendocino College.

Gail was a good person with strong native values, whose smile could brighten your day and lift your spirits. She illustrated what it took to stand up for what you believe in and for your voice to be heard.

Back in November 1969, Gail became a part of native history, occupying Alcatraz Island (San Francisco) as a symbolic act of Peace and Freedom; she was such a REBEL. She was a person who stood for what she believed in and was never afraid to voice her views and opinions.

At 68, Gail worked full-time; her last place of employment was working for her tribe at Running Creek Casino in Upper Lake, Calif., as the Players Club manager.

Throughout Gail’s career, she worked as a teacher’s aide for the Pomo Project and the Mendocino County Indian Education Program in Ukiah; in addition she worked for Robinson Rancheria Resort & Casino in Nice for many years in various departments.

Over the past several years, she served on the Lake County Tribal Health Consortium’s Board of Directors in addition to the chairperson of Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake’s Grievance Review Board.

In 2012 Gail was diagnosed with cancer and battled her way through treatment into remission and beat it.

Gail has persevered through so much, paving a path of what it takes to be a strong, independent native woman. She has demonstrated her bravery in her fight to overcome cancer; taking on whatever came her way, exemplifying what it is to be a true SURVIVOR.

She is survived by her four children, Aaron Holstine of Nice, Adrianne Holstine of Potter Valley, Joseph Holstine of Lakeport and Jonathan Holstine of Ukiah; 10 grandchildren, Britany Mehtlan, Nathaniel Hayes, Tyeson Hayes, Dominick Garcia, Leslie Garland-Holstine, Cherylanne Snow, Jovon Holstine, Joseph Holstine, Joleia Holstine and Aiyana Whitehurst; four great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Jaxson, Kaison and Jayden Mehtlan; and sisters, Georgeanne Marcks and Leora Treppa-Diego.

Gail’s granddaughter, Joleia wished to send this personal message “You’re the best grandma. I love you with all my heart. I miss you so much I really wish I could see you again. I want to hug you.”

Gail’s grandson, Jovon wished to send this message: “In memory of Gail Treppa (aka Grandma) RIP Gram, we all miss you – have a good life in heaven.”

Gail is loved by many and will be missed by more than we’ll ever know.

Funeral arrangements will be held as follows should you wish to attend, send flowers and/or to pay your respects:
