LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Joseph “Joe” William Sheffert passed peacefully from his earthly home to reside with his Heavenly Father on Oct. 23, 2017, at the age of 69 after a brief but valiant battle with cancer.

Born Aug. 11, 1948, to Mark and Neneen Sheffert in Lincoln, Nebraska, he was the youngest of three children. His family later moved to New Hope, Minnesota, where he graduated from Cooper High School in 1966.

Joe attended American River College in Sacramento before joining the Army in 1968. Along with being a Vietnam veteran, Joe held several other jobs that provided him some interesting stories over the years. He worked in a bakery, as an iron worker, a taxi driver, in a convalescent home and as a drapery salesman/installer.

Joe met his wife Linda in Sacramento. They were married in 1979 in Lakeport on the family property under the big oak tree. They resided in Citrus Heights where they welcomed their daughter Christy Lee, later moving the family to Lakeport in 1989.

Joe’s true passion was preserving memories, thus starting his videography business, Sheffert’s Videography Services. He videotaped numerous family and community events since moving to Lake County: dance recitals, Spring Dance Festivals, high school sporting events and theater productions, track videographer at Lakeport Speedway and church videographer for United Christian Parish. He also performed many film to video transfers, where he eloquently matched music to films and slides from the past.

In his younger years he enjoyed scuba diving, golf and swimming (specifically at Konocti Harbor Resort and Spa). In the most recent years, he enjoyed passing along jokes via email and Facebook and spending time with his family and all the grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mark W. Sheffert Sr. (1967) and Neneen M. (Sheffert) Honsvall (2005); stepfather, Arvid C. Honsvall (2002); and sister, Sharan D. Atkins (2017).

He is survived by Linda, his wife of 38 years; daughter, Christy Lee Smith (Jonathan); grandchildren, Jacob, Kaylee, Lacey, Jonny Joe, Serenity and Josiah; brother, Mark W. Sheffert (Jennifer); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe loved God, his family and America. He had an inner strength that helped him through many challenges.

Joe had a never-ending sense of humor, always ready with a joke for everyone he met. His love, laughter, hugs, advice, knowledge, friendship and humor will be so greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary in Lakeport on June 9 at 10:30 a.m. Following the service there will be a gathering of family and friends at United Christian Parish.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Easter Seals or United Christian Parish, 745 N. Brush St., Lakeport, CA 95453.
