Daniel Robert Tracy

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Daniel Robert Tracy passed away at home on June 23, 2017.

He was born the youngest of three children in Hutchinson, Kansas, to David and Mary Tracy.

Dan graduated from Wilcox High School in 1967 in San Jose, Calif., and entered the United States Army. As a Vietnam veteran with the 9th Infantry Division, he was awarded the Bronze Star.

After completing a career as a laser engineer in Palo Alto, Calif., he attended the Police Academy at age 34.

He pursued a second career in law enforcement, retiring from the Lake County Sheriff's Department in 2004.

In his years of service, he was a patrol sergeant, detective, hostage negotiator, involved in the Lake County Gang Task Force and Canine Units.

Dan was a humble and patriotic man who loved his country. His integrity and quick wit were admirable. Dan had a natural sense of humor and a gift for bringing intense situations to a peaceful resolution. He often commented on the sense of camaraderie and brotherhood in the military that led him to his career in law enforcement.

Our beloved Danny will be missed always by his wife of nearly 40 years, Karen; his sons, Robert Tracy and Matthew Dickert; and his daughters, Kara Roberts and Amy Tracy.

He is also survived by his grandsons, Jace Roberts, TJ Tracy, Christopher Tracy and Daniel Tracy II; and his granddaughters, Amelia Perry, Natalie Perry, Avery Perry and Cheyenne Tracy. He has three great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his brother, David Tracy; his sister-in-law, Lynne Moore; brother-in-law, Harold Moore; as well as many loved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Stephen Tracy.

Dan spent a lifetime dedicated to is loving family. He enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their sporting activities. He was a devout San Jose Sharks fan, participating himself in sports as a hockey goalie and softball first baseman. He was an avid reader and loved sitting outside with a good book.

There will be a memorial service celebrating his life held in October with the date to be announced.
