Beverly Ballance

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Beverly Nina Ballance, born February 12, 1930 in Salina, Utah was a woman who lived fully, often choosing the scenic route for the beauty and adventure it offered.

Artist, business owner, friend, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, she was a cheerleader and comforter for countless who were part of her life.

She enjoyed traveling, painting, hospitality, letter-writing, dancing, golfing, long walks and picnics with her husband, Jack.

Her life began in Utah but years were spent in Idaho, Oregon, and California.

She worked tirelessly as a hairdresser for decades, gaining respect and a committed following. Eventually she opened Nina’s of Oakmont, a salon in Santa Rosa, and not only will she be remembered as the personality behind this gathering place, but as a strong, caring, creative presence in whatever community she was part of.

A significant chapter of her and Jack’s retired life was spent in Parkdale, Ore., where they made life-long friendships.

They led Stevens Ministries out of Parkdale Presbyterian Community Church. As a natural extension of her generous, loving and empathetic presence, this ministry cared for the emotional, spiritual and physical needs of the church community.

Just before her 70th birthday, she and Jack moved to Lake County, Calif., where her children reside.

Her final chapter was spent at Rocky Point Care Center in Lakeport, where many residents, staff and worship leaders became extended family.

After being surrounded by family for several days, she peacefully passed Monday night, August 31, 2015, in the presence of her husband.

She is survived by husband, Jack Ballance; son, Don Hunter; daughter, Barbara Carlson, and son-in-law, Carl Carlson; grandchildren, Roxanne Gibbs, Jordan Carlson, Joni Evans, Jonathan Carlson and Sara Ichtertz; seven great-grandchildren; as well as her brothers, Babe Hiskey (wife Eunice, and family) of Galveston, Texas, and Jim Hiskey (wife Lorraine, and family) of Annapolis, Maryland.

Per her request there will not be a formal memorial service, rather a family gathering at a later time.

Arrangements by Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, 707-263-0357 or 707-994-5611, or visit www.chapelofthelakes.com .
