Ralph Tracy Davis
2/28/1920-6/22/2014
CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Ralph Davis of Clearlake passed away at age 94 on Sunday, June 22.
He was born in Houston, Penn., to Harry and Agnes Davis.
He was a World War II veteran and, after the war, he came home to Pennsylvania to earn his bachelor of science degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1948.
He later returned to Germany, spending 10 years there working as an auditor for Stars & Stripes magazine. In this capacity he was able to travel extensively in Europe.
He had many stories about growing up during the Great Depression and about how the large family would share resources; including, at times, the large farmhouse belonging to his grandmother and great-grandmother.
He loved trains, history, books, movies, music, puzzles and card games. He was a good cook, and a good drinker. His nightly Vodka Martini was a ritual not often missed.
He had a marvelous sense of humor, but absolutely no sense of direction.
Although he was not a tall man, his heart had an immense capacity for caring. He was the consummate gentleman and had a strict sense of right and wrong.
He is survived by his brother, Harry Davis of Neckargemund, Germany; his nephew, Steve West; nieces, Dani West, Kelly Johnson, Carol Ann Didier and Joy Ellen Lear; and his life partner, Dean Crumley.
He was predeceased by his two sisters, Carol West and Loisanne Delaquilla; and nephew, Kevin West.
