Dorothy Mae Miller passed away June 3, 2013.

Dorothy was born Nov. 15, 1924 in Kansas City, Missourito Fred Lichtenstern and Hazel Simmons.

In her youth, Dorothy and her family moved to the West, moving to many different places for her father's employment.

She graduated from Lincoln High, San Francisco in 1942 and went on to work for Bethlehem Steele during WWII.

Dorothy was a loving mother to five children, Carol, Joy, Richard, Norma and Scott. She lived in Vallejo for 50 years where she enjoyed bowling, gardening, sewing and spending summers on the water and beaches of Clearlake, Calif.

She always had a love of traveling with close family and friends whenever she had the chance. Salmon fishing in Ft. Bragg and staying the summers at Casper Beach was a favorite pastime.

Dorothy moved to Lower Lake in 1999. She became an active member of the Lower Lake Community United Methodist Church and volunteered in the church office distributing to needy families  for the food closet and later the church thrift shop with her daughter Joy.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Miller; children, Richard (Ric) Gunderson, Norma Miller and Joy Scarrott; her grandchildren, Michael and Nichole; great-grandson, James Charles Scarrott; her brother, Henry Lichtenstern; and her former husband, Richard Gunderson.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Carol (Steve) Ellis, son Scott (Cathy) Miller, sisters Janice Aday of Folsom and Jean Lord of Orangeville. She also has 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Dorothy's family wishes to thank her caregiver Tammy and Lake Co. Hospice.

Services celebrating Dorothy's life will be held Friday, June 21, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Lower Lake United Methodist Church.

Donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to Lower Lake Methodist Church or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
