Saturday Morning Farmers’ Market moves to fairgrounds; now open year-round

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Saturday Morning Farmers’ Market has moved off the hot, dusty field by Steele Wines to the Floriculture Building at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Lakeport.

The market has its own entrance off Martin Street near Gate 5, its own bathrooms and a nice grassy area with a fountain for its Market Square.

Lake County Farmers’ Finest offered a big thank you to Lake County Fair Chief Executive Officer Sheli Wright, who reached out to them to make this move possible.

As a major bonus, this move has allowed organizers to have a year-round farmers’ market on Saturdays, enabling participating farmers to take advantage of extended seasons to grow more fresh food and produce additional products for sale.

This location will enable Lake County Farmers’ Finest to do a whole lot more for the community and it looks forward to organizing monthly educational components and outreach efforts, especially focused on agriculture and Lake County's school-aged children.

The move was prompted when Steele Wines did not reopen and the market was not able to set up in the park-like setting that they enjoyed for so many years.

When the market opened its season on May 2 during the shutdown, organizers had hoped things would change but it was not meant to be.

“We will always be grateful to Jed Steele and his wonderful crew for making all those great years and memories possible,” said Cornelia Sieber-Davis, the market manager.

The Tuesday Morning Market at Library Park will remain open seasonally from May through the end of September.

Both Certified Farmers’ Markets are open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. rain or shine, accept CalFresh/Market Match and WIC.

Face coverings are required at the markets to protect customers and participating farmers and will not serve anyone without one. “This has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with respect,” organizers said.
