Grant awarded to Tehama Mendocino fuel reduction partnership

MENDOCINO NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. – The Tehama Mendocino fuel reduction partnership recently received a $4.7 million grant from the Cal Fire Forest Health Program.

The grant was awarded for a large-landscape forest health improvement project in seven areas across 4,531 acres within the Mendocino National Forest and adjacent state lands in Tehama County.

The seven project locations are identified as priority treatment areas by local and county community wildfire protection plans, the U.S. Forest Service and Cal Fire.

All areas are within watersheds designated by the California governor to be at risk of substantial loss due to insects and disease.

The anticipated results will improve forest health, increase public safety, improve watershed function and enhance aquatic and wildlife habitat.

“This is a great opportunity to work with our partners to reduce wildfire risk and increase public safety in nearby communities. We share a commitment to accomplish this important work by 2022,” said Forest Supervisor Ann Carlson.

This collaborative partnership includes the Mendocino National Forest, Tehama and Glenn County Resource Conservation Districts, Crane Mills, FireScape Mendocino, Tehama-Glenn Firescape Councils, Tehama and Glenn County Board of Supervisors, California Fish and Wildlife Service, Natural Resource Conservation Services and Tehama County Fire Department.
