Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club presents awards to Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl poster winners

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club is proud to announce the contest winners for the Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl Poster Contest.
The winning posters were drawn by Cali Schnabl and Leilani Carrell.
The National Garden Clubs Inc. and the US Forest Service partner each year to sponsor the Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl Poster Contest.
First through fifth grade students are invited to show their understanding of fire prevention and basic environmental conservation principles through an original drawing of Smokey Bear or Woodsy Owl.
The garden club reaches out to area schools to get children involved in the contest.
This year, 28 posters were received and two were chosen to be sent to the California Garden Club's State Poster Chair to be judged.
Special thanks to Marilyn Gunther, who went into the schools and presented the idea to teachers, and to Linda Waterstraat, the poster chair for the garden club.
The Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club is a member of the Mendo-Lake District of the California Garden Club Inc. Pacific Region and National Garden Clubs Inc.
