Garden club to honor World Mark Clear Lake at June 27 meeting

NICE, Calif. – California Garden Clubs Inc. Landscape Design Council has honored World Mark Clear Lake with a landscape design commendation.

Virginia Stranske, director of Mendo-Lake District of California Garden Clubs Inc., will make the presentation to Resort Manager Carmen Brokaw, during the annual meeting on Wednesday, June 27, at the home of Don Smith and Sharon Thorne, 7186 Lincoln Street in Nice.

This event will be hosted by the North Lake Garden Club.

World Mark Clear Lake is a Wyndham time share located on the shores of Clear Lake and on the scenic corridor of E. Highway 20 of Nice.

A panel of National Garden Clubs Inc. Landscape design consultants – which included Mary Lou Goodwin, Launa Gould and Patricia Clayes – decided on this project, as an example of good land use and as an asset to the community.

World Mark Clear Lake was constructed on the east lake site of the historic Clear Lake Lodge which was built in 1906. The office is part of the original building.

The resort offers exclusive vacation ownerships in the additional Spanish Mission style buildings built in 1997, spread out on two acres.

The landscape includes magnolias and a four-tiered bronze water fountain. The lawn is well defined by sidewalks, bridges and crushed Sonoma Gold rock. The site also includes special playground equipment for children to enjoy.

There are spotlights that accent the original California Bay Laurel and California Oak trees on the property. Floral color is evident with roses, tiger lilies, wisteria and crepe myrtle.

The sculptured photina shrubs, often called burning bush, are located at the entrances to the complex. There also is a 9/11 Memorial Rose Garden planned by individual owners of the time share for all to enjoy.

“The Wyndham policy is to be earth friendly,” said maintenance manager Roy Peters. “That being said, we use natural organic feeding on the property. This is very important since as a company we care much about our surrounding environment. The lake and its wildlife are important to us.”

The grounds are well maintained and a beautiful setting is an asset to the community.
