Come see the transit of Venus at Taylor Observatory June 5

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – When Venus passes directly between Earth and the Sun, we see the distant planet as a small dot gliding slowly across the face of the sun.

Don't miss the transit of Venus event, which will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 5. It will be the last chance to see it in our lifetime, as the next transit will not occur until 2117. Bring your family and friends.

The observatory's solar telescopes will allow a great opportunity to experience this event. For your safety, solar viewing glasses will be provided.

“Strange Planets” will be showing in the planetarium. This show presents the search for Earth like planets and methods used to locate planets in other star systems, one of which is the transit method.

Check out the Local Venus Transit Times and find out more by visiting the Transit of Venus Web site at www.transitofvenus.org/education/video-new-media .

Taylor Observatory-Norton Planetarium is located at 5725 Oak Hills Lane, Kelseyville.
