Mediacom adds 25 high-definition channels to lineup

LAKE COUNTY – Mediacom Communications announced Wednesday it has added 25 new high-definition (HD) channels to its cable line-up, giving Lake County customers access to the most popular cable networks that provide news, lifestyle, sports and family television programming.

For customers equipped for HD viewing, the expanded line-up includes 20 channels added automatically to HD Family Cable at no added cost.

“High-definition is the most significant change in the viewing experience since a generation ago when color television replaced black and white,” said Shawn Swatosh Mediacom’s senior manager for area operations. “Mediacom made investments to improve the Clear Lake area system over the past six months, and the result is evident today with this almost unprecedented addition of 25 high-definition channels. We’re thrilled that we could make such a huge boost to give our customers a wide range of programming to enjoy with the brilliantly-rich quality of high-definition.”

The channel additions include 20 popular cable networks added automatically to Mediacom Family Cable, boosting the number of Family Cable channels available in high-definition from eight (8) to 28.

The five other additions are HD formats of premium channels such as HBO and Showtime, made available to customers whose video subscriptions include the standard versions of those movie and entertainment channels.

“This is a significant upgrade that puts Lake County at the leading edge of television,” Swatosh said. “It is part of Mediacom’s commitment to deliver advanced digital services to all communities we serve, regardless of their size or proximity. Our robust channel line-up offers consumers more programming choices than ever before.”

High-definition broadcasts for all local television stations and two ESPN sports networks were previously made available to Mediacom Family Cable subscribers. Some customers use HD televisions with built-in QAM tuners and can receive some HD channels without a cable box. To receive HD reception for most cable networks, customers must have an HD television connected to either a Mediacom HD cable box or cable card.
