LAKEPORT, Calif. — Konocti View Optometry announced that it has made the difficult decision to end its participation in the Vision Service Plan, or VSP, Network effective June 29.

“This was not a decision made lightly or in haste. We have attempted to engage VSP on numerous occasions regarding reimbursement rates for services and materials to no avail. VSP has not increased reimbursement rates in years and recently has introduced plans which constitute a reimbursement decrease. We delivered our termination notice on March 29 but left the door open to negotiations. VSP has made no effort to negotiate with us,” said Emmalena Boyd, O.D., the company’s president.

Boyd said that when they receive feedback from their patients, the overwhelmingly positive comments revolve around timely service, the thoroughness of care and, most importantly, staff.

“We structure our schedule so that we have the time to address all your eye health and vision concerns. We are investing in the latest technologies, and we invest in the best people. We will not compromise on these values to accommodate VSP’s unwillingness to pay us fairly. We will not overbook our schedule to make up for the difference. We will not lower our standard of care. And we will not compromise on the quality of our staff,” Boyd said.

If VSP chooses not to negotiate, Boyd said her company will still be here to provide the high-quality care customers expect.

Customers can pay out of pocket and submit to VSP for reimbursement; contact VSP to verify out-of-network benefits.

“This summer we will invest in our community again, adding in-house lens edging to our services, lowering costs for prescription lenses. It is our goal to offer high quality vision products and care to everyone in our community, regardless of your budget,” Boyd said.
