Annual after Thanksgiving Sol Rouge release party planned for Nov. 23

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County Wine Studio is hosting its annual after Thanksgiving Sol Rouge wine release party from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23.

Winemaker Bryan Kane will be at the studio to share his new releases made from the grape varietals of southern France’s Rhone and Bordeaux regions.

Sol Rouge is a family estate vineyard and winery located in the Red Hills Appellation at elevations over 1,800 feet.

North of Napa Valley in the foothills of the dormant volcano which formed the North Coast wine country, this land contains rich, red volcanic soil and, from this unique profile, Sol Rouge derived its name – translating to “Red Soil” in French.

This 70-acre estate is currently planted with Grenache, Mourvédre, Syrah, Counoise, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Cinsault.

Nestled between Mt. Konocti and Benson Ridge, this aggressive site is all hillside with slopes up to 50 percent and is said to be the most tightly planted vineyard in the Red Hills AVA, with nearly 6,000 vines per hectare in some blocks.

The $12.50 ($10/ per person for studio club members) wine sampler with paired appetizers will feature 2009 Viognier, 2011 Rosé, 2009 Mourvédre, 2009 Gypsy Rouge, 2009 Zinfandel, 2009 Cabernet Franc and 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon.

At this special one-night-only event, the Lake County Wine Studio will offer a variety of appetizers to be enjoyed with the wine samples.

Sol Rouge wine club members are invited to attend at no charge.  Reservations are not required.

Art remaining on view during November features illustrations by Steve Bellah.

Lake County Wine Studio is both a gallery for display of arts and a tasting room, wine bar and retail shop for the fine wines of Lake County.

Artists’ shows are held on a monthly basis with art and wine receptions held the first Friday and subsequent Saturday of each month.

The gallery is located at 9505 Main St. in Upper Lake. It is open Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
