KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – A Wednesday evening crash involving three vehicles resulted in injuries for four Kelseyville residents, with two of them being flown to out-of-county trauma centers.
The wreck occurred at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday on Gaddy Lane north of Loasa Road, according to a report from the Clear Lake Area office of the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said Maria S. Messimer, 52, was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee northbound on Gaddy Lane, coming to a stop to make a left turn into a private driveway.
Shalyn Keithly, 17, was driving a 2008 Nissan Xterra southbound on Gaddy Lane, heading toward the town of Kelseyville, at approximately 55 miles per hour, the CHP said.
The third vehicle, a 1999 GMC Suburban, was driven by 38-year-old Christopher N. Clay northbound on Gaddy Lane. Clay came to a stop behind Messimer, according to the report.
The CHP said Messimer turned directly into Keithly’s path, with their two vehicles colliding head-on. The crash’s forward momentum then caused both vehicles to hit Clay’s Suburban.
After the crash, Messimer and Keithly were trapped in their vehicles and had to be extricated by Kelseyville Fire, the CHP said.
Both Messimer and Keithly had moderate injuries. The CHP said Messimer had a complaint of pain to her lower extremities and Keithly had a complaint of pain to her abdomen and chest.
REACH and Cal Star air ambulances responded to the scene to transport Messimer and Keithly to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, the CHP said.
Clay and his passenger, 29-year-old Stefanie Koontz, both had minor injuries. The CHP said Clay had a complaint of pain to his nose and chest, and Koontz had a complaint of pain to her chest. Both were released at the scene.
The CHP said Officer Glen Thomas is investigating the crash.
