NORTH COAST, Calif. – A McKinleyville man was seriously injured in a crash on Highway 20 in Mendocino County on Sunday.
The crash occurred just before 2 p.m. Sunday on Highway 20 at Road 144, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Ukiah Area office.
The CHP said Robert Davidson, 69, of Lucerne was driving a tan 2007 Honda CRV on Road 144 toward Highway 20 while Kim Boehm, 62, of McKinleyville, was driving a white 2005 Ford Ranger on eastbound Highway 20, approaching Road 144.
For an unknown reason, Davidson entered Highway 20, directly in Boehm’s path. The CHP said neither man was able to avoid the subsequent collision, in which the front of Boehm’s pickup hit the left front end of the Honda.
The CHP report said Boehm’s pickup was deflected in an easterly direction by the force of the impact and flipped over an unknown number of times before coming to rest on its right side, blocking the westbound lane of Highway 20.
The CHP, Cal Fire and CalStar responded to the scene. Boehm suffered major injuries, with no reported injuries for Davidson, the CHP said.
In the pickup with Boehm were his two dogs, which went missing after the crash, according to a post his daughter, Annie Boehm, placed on Lake County News’ Facebook page.
However, on Tuesday the dogs – at least one of which had been spotted running along Highway 20 in the days following the crash – were reported to have been located thanks to help from community members and are OK, besides being a little banged up, Boehm’s daughter said.
She also reported her father was on the mend but had been worried about his dogs.
The CHP said the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
