LAKEPORT, Calif. – Cate Sims of Education First, a nonprofit organization that matches foreign exchange students and host families, will present a program called “Bring the World into Your School” at the Lakeport branch of Lake County Library on Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
People interested in hosting foreign exchange students are invited to learn what is involved and how to go about doing so.
Sims’ program will include a video presentation, a discussion and a question-and-answer session. Light refreshments will be served.
Sims is the first Lake County international exchange coordinator for Education First, a nonprofit organization that brings students with good grades from Europe and Asia to the United States for visits lasting either one or two semesters.
Her job is to welcome the foreign teens who will stay in Lake County and to introduce them to the area.
She sees the program as benefiting both the students and the families that host them.
Education First claims to bring more students to the United States than any other similar organization.
Host families must undergo extensive background checks to qualify. All ages are welcome at the presentation, but the minimum age for hosting a foreign exchange student is 25.
