CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake Planning Commission welcomed its newest member at its March 21 meeting.
Richard Bean was sworn in and took his seat at the meeting last week.
Bean is a retired pastor, formerly serving at the Clearlake Church of the Nazarene, and a former auditor-secretary of the Clearlake Oaks County Water District.
“I am proud to represent the citizens of Clearlake on the Planning Commission and I’m looking forward to helping guide future development,” Bean said.
The Clearlake City Council appointed Bean and reappointed his fellow commissioners, Carl Webb and Russ Cremer, at its March 9 meeting.
Chair Nathalie Antus and Vice Chair Dirk Slooten round out the commission’s membership.
Commissioner Bean was thrown right into the action on his first night, during which there were two public hearings on marijuana.
The first item was regarding amending the existing marijuana cultivation ordinance to comply with Proposition 64, the Adult Use of Marijuana Act.
The second was amending the existing marijuana dispensary ordinance, also to comply with the Adult Use of Marijuana Act.
Both ordinances were reviewed and the planning commission voted 5-0 to recommend that the city council approve the ordinances with some minor adjustments.
“Commissioner Bean is going to be a great addition to the Planning Commission,” said City Manager Greg Folsom. “He brings a wealth of experience in Clearlake and is a very common sense person who is well respected in the community. I’m looking forward to working with Commissioner Bean and the rest of the planning commission on many upcoming projects that will help make Clearlake a better place.”
