LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – This week the county of Lake released a newly completed map that shows the Valley fire area and the rebuilding that is going on within it.
The fire, which began in the Cobb area on the afternoon of Sept. 12, 2015, burned 76,067 acres across the south county and into parts of Napa and Sonoma counties. It claimed four lives, and burned close to 2,000 structures, more than 1,300 of them homes.
With the second anniversary of the beginning of the fire just two months away, District 1 Supervisor Moke Simon asked county staff to develop a digital map that depicts the progress of reconstruction in the Valley fire area.
“At first glance, what jumps across is how many properties, how many families were affected by the fire, but when you zoom in, when you look more locally, it is obvious that we are rebuilding,” said Simon.
He added that he is encouraged by all that Lake County residents have accomplished so far. “I also commit to continuing to respond to needs raised by constituents, and doing my part to see our recovery through.”
The map can be seen here or viewed on the county’s Web site.
Officials said the map will be updated monthly as part of tracking the recovery’s progress..
